Nov. 15, 2005 Thanksgiving is just a little more than a week away. To me it is an overlooked holiday, something that people try to ignore. Except for the football games and the large meal they prepare. Many hate it because it is a religious holiday. Remember who we are giving thanks to? Or we have become so pampered as a nation that we forget to give thanks to anyone for our prosperity. And even though I am not a wealthy man, by any means, I realize that I have a lot to be thankful for. I am thankful that I live in a country that allows me to believe what I want and worship how I want. I have this right despite the efforts of many extremists to make religion a banished part of life. We forget that we have more freedom than any other country. Many around the world die for their religious beliefs, or they don't have the right to have a religion at all. Or they are forced into a religion. I am thankful that I don't live in France. Ok, I admit that's a bit of a cheap shot at the French, but considering all that's going on there right now, I am glad that I don't live there. I am thankful that this country has such great men and women in the military. That they are out there doing their jobs to keep this country safe. The only reminder that we seem to get that we are at war comes from the media, and only when they want to make Iraq into Vietnam. Our soldiers are out their defending us against the terrorists. And they are the best in the world. As always I am thankful for my family, but that should go without saying. I am thankful that even though I am not wealthy, I am comfortable. If your reading this or write for this site, you can probably say the same thing. Sometimes we forget that many are not. They live off a dollar a day, or less. If they live long enough to get a job. Living in this country is a blessing, and something to be thankful for.
