Nov. 6, 2005 Ron Lewis made his debut on Useless Knowledge (UK) on Dec. 8, 2004 with an article entitled, "My Rebuttal To Robert Reyes' "Who Defines Moral Values" Ron's first contribution to UK was a straightforward critique of my editorial, it was not an ad hominen attack. I did not respond either via e-mail nor in a public forum to Ron's rebuttal of my work. I'm a columnist for a small town newspaper and I also write for a few Web sites, I don't have either the time or the inclination to respond to attacks either of my work or of my character. Besides writing for a newspaper I also have a full-time job, with the little spare time that I have, I choose to write about the important issues of the day.(OK, forgive me, I'm also obsessed with Beth Holloway Twitty.) In his initial submission to UK, Ron did not cross the bounds of good taste or common courtesy, but apparently Ron thrives on animosity and conflict. He got no reaction from me, so on Dec,10 2004, Ron wrote an article entitled, "Some Useless Knowledge Columnists Need Help." Here is a quote from this Dec,10th diatribe: "I suspect he's also a walking time bomb and in this age of Columbine, baby-killing mothers, and "going Postal", we need to recognize these tormented souls in advance and get them help. So, if you live in Lynchburg, Va.. Lest I sound only critical myself, I would note that in his "Ode to Patches", we finally sense some decency as he describes his cat's death. However, I suspect its death was suicide and not old age as he claims." By any measure, by any standard, this is not a literary critique, it is a demented personal attack. Ron has attacked not only me, but dozens of other contributors to Useless Knowledge. Ron has a very cruel streak and a special fondness for attacking those whom he perceives as weak. He made light of an elderly writer's cancer affliction, and has branded a couple of our elderly columnists as being "Alzheimer impaired." I voted to boot Ron Lewis as the worst "Columnist" of Useless Knowledge. We weren't asked to boot the worst writer, Ron is a very technically proficient writer, but he has no soul, he uses his literary skills to hurt and humiliate budding writers. Useless Knowledge Magazine is a family of writers, I'm one of the few who could be considered professional, as family we need to support and help each other out. Ron, criticizing the spelling, grammar and syntax of Useless Knowledge writers is like fishing from a barrel, why don't you use your superior literary skills in a more worthwhile pursuit? I shed no tears for Ron, I only hope that now that he has been properly chastised, he will learn to use his gifts to build people up, and not tear them apart. In his Dec 10th article Ron Lewis wrote: "Robert Paul Reyes is not a critical thinker, he is just critical. There is no in-depth analysis to his writing, only anger and bigotry. He seems almost incapable of making an argument without degrading someone in the process." Ron, this is a perfect description of your literary efforts, if only you had the courage to take a good look in the mirror. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes has written over 200 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
