Nov. 5, 2005 It can take one quite a long time to get to know some one, sometimes an entire lifetime, sometimes less, depending of course on the situation and circumstances involved. Some people use a saying such as ‘Show me who your friends are and I’ll show you who you are.’ For this judgement of character thing can be a tricky path. For example when some one first starts dating or seeing another, first he/she would like to get to know that individual’s friends for possibly more than one reason. Maybe he/she wants to see if that special some one he/she is dating is not only suitable enough but also good natured enough to acquire an appropriate group of friends. But say upon closer examination of one’s new mate’s friends, he/she observes a quality in one of those friends with which he/she is uncomfortable. Say it’s a bad habit. So bad that the individual who feels uncomfortable has received many a warning about such a habit, and is in a quandary about pursuing a possible relationship with that person’s friend for fear that he/she might also entertain thoughts about such a habit. For when one of our friends displays an unsuitable part of himself/herself to others, would those others think that in some way, that same quality or habit might be lying dormant deep within you, waiting for the right moment to emerge? Do we have little parts of each other within us? In the long run, it’s what we do with those traits and habits that matter. For qualities may come and go, but it’s our actions and lack thereof that determine who we really are, not the one friend with the bad habit or quality. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
