Nov. 3, 2005 It's odd as to what is considered newsworthy. The Senate shuts down for two hours so Harry Reid and the other dumb-o-crats can feel important, and it's news, news, news. You'd have thought that some scientist had just announced that our sun was going to go nova in the next month. On the other side of the world, the madmen of Tehran threaten to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, and there is barely a yawn. So why would Iran's President, a man who has gone from taking Americans hostage to a man who has taken his whole country hostage, make that threat? Could it be that the moronic mullahs are close to achieving their nuclear ambitions while the world sat back and allowed it? Sadly, that is very likely what is going to happen. The signs out of Iran are discouraging, to say the least. No, I don't mean their last presidential election, the result of that farce was preordained from the beginning. I mean the almost frenzied pace Iran is moving at to threaten the world. Tehran has just recently announced that 40 of their ambassadors are going to be fired. All of them are diplomats that favor closer ties to the west. Instead they will be replaced by barely literate islamic hardliners who won't be afraid of threatening the world with nuclear destruction if they don't get their way. Even less encouraging is the way we are approaching this mess. Somewhere along the way we have lost sight of what it is we are trying to do. Iran was mentioned in the "axis of evil" for a reason. Instead we let the EU try and talk them to death. You know, if we were negotiating some kind of trade deal that would be one thing. But were talking about a bunch of 7th century imbeciles who want to get their hands on modern weapons to creat a 21st century Islamic superpower. Hmm, that doesn't sound like a good idea to me. We still have options, but we need to stop waiting and take action. Someone noted that Iranians are very patriotic. True, and they have every right to be. Their civilization is one of the oldest and was one of the most advanced. But that doesn't mean that your average Iranian has any love for the current leadership. We saw a Cedar Revloution in Lebanon, isn't it about time we saw one in Iran. I don't think we can afford to wait. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
