Nov. 30, 2004 Today I received my first Christmas card of 2004. It was from President George W. Bush and Laura Bush. I’ve received a card from the Bush Family three of the four years he’s been president. I’m not sure why but it gives me a good feeling. I’m going to follow the “don’t ask don’t brag” scenario. The card it’s self is not much different than one I will get from many friends. The cover is a bright red and gold watercolor of a Victorian Living room with a fireplace. The interior has the Gold Eagle embossed on parchment paper, [The seal of the United States.] Below that is a psalm 95:2 {niv} “Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song”. Below that is a simple message “May songs of joy fill your home with warmth and your hearts with happiness this holiday season 2004”. As I said it’s similar to what I’ll be getting from any number of friends this holiday season. I would also point out it was sent with a .37 cent stamp affixed and signed by George Bush--- /--- Laura Bush. The first inclination of anyone who knows I get a card from the president assumes it’s because I’m a big contributor to his campaign fund. Actually I’m not. I donate to the RNC not by any large amount. My contribution is small by most standards. I’ve written a lot of words supporting the president and even more words apposing his adversary John Kerry. It would be presumptuous of me to think the president reads Useless-Knowledge.Com. I guess it’s possible, [earth to Uncle Ken come home] Let’s just say my name got on a list of people the president found a reason to recognize. I’ll settle for benefiting from an error. This brings up some of the admirable qualities of the president I would like to discuss. The president is very unassuming. He has confidence but not an arrogant confidence. The president is a man who is willing to accept responsibility when errors are made. He doesn’t spin and he doesn’t cover up. In my lifetime I can only think of three other presidents who possessed the quality and the characteristics of George W. Bush. They were Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman and Ronald Reagan. We’ve seen President Bush perform admirably without funfair on several occasions. As a young man George Bush was stopped for driving under the influences. He was ticketed he followed the law and moved on. When it was used to discredit him in the 2000 campaign he admitted the incident and moved on. His service in the Texas Air National Guard became an incident the Media and his opponents spent years trying to discredit. George Bush steadfastly stood his ground “I did my duty and was honorably discharged” was his only response. No spin, no polls, no excuses, [John Kerry only recently received an honorable discharge from the Navy.] President Bush flew out to an Aircraft Carrier to greet a group retuning from combat. The Media and his dissenters made every effort to discredit his actions. The president didn’t respond he knew why he went, to pay tribute to the young men and women returning from a war zone. The president flew to Baghdad in the most heated time of the war. The Media and his dissenters did their best to make it seem as though he were using it only as a photo-op. The Soldiers and Marines knew why he was there. Just recently the president came to the rescue of one of his protectors. There was no time to consider how this would play on the evening news. The president acted calmly in a crisis and moved on. This man of courage, compassion, faith and honesty who will lead America back from the Gates of Gomorra. I applauded you Mr. President. I expect to get a lot of heat for my views. To those who e-mail me.
