Nov. 29, 2004 Poverty this is a word that Capitalists have no concept of. In fact they have erased it out of their vocabulary. Yet for most Americans living in America, it is the first thing they think of in the morning and the last thought before they go to sleep. How sad when as a society the rich forget about the poor and needy. These are the outcasts of society that have fallen on hard times. This Christmas invite a street person or a family suriving on beans and tuna to spend the Christmas holidays with you. For many of these people it will be their last meal before they starve to death or die because of the bone chilling cold, this winter. In fact, when was the last time you visited the homeless or spent time with the elderly who are all alone? For myself I last visited with them yesterday and we had a marvelous time singing and sharing. They even let me preach an inspiring message to them. Remember Christmas is not about what you can receive or what will temporarily satisfy your lusts and desires. Christmas is about a man called Jesus who was a King but lived a life of poverty and was an example to live by. He asked for nothing of himself. In fact he never even had a home, not even the lastest Dell PC to write his sermons notes on. Jesus was a simple man with an eternal message. He was a man of the simple folk and never lived in a palace or sat on a throne. He knew what it was to sacrifice - to give up his kingship and his life for the human race. When he was not spending time feeding the poor, casting out demons, praying for the sick, or teaching the poor, he would spend time in fellowship with the Father. For just like all of us poor folk he needed to know what poor people need his help. So this Christmas when your buying your presents, turkey and all the stuffing do not forget that millions of American will go without this holiday season. They will have not gifts, no tree and no love beacause no one cares. They do not live in poverty because they chose to but because of the evils of Capitalism that has no compassion on the less fortunate.
