Nov. 29, 2004 I am quite aware that some men have had trouble with some members of the opposite sex, especially when pertaining to infidelity and lying and such, but I have observed that certain celebrities like hip hop/rap star ‘Eminem’ is blatantly telling the world about his own problems with women. For example, in his past hit single, ‘Superman,’ he conveys a story of women as being liars when he says, ‘that’s what ----- do, they lie. That particular song starts out as sounding rather all right when he indicates to the female subject, that he could be her ‘superman.’ But as the listener keeps his/her ears tuned to the musical number, there is a change. First, the male character accuses the female as being an easy conquest when he says, ‘We just met and I just ----- you,’ while still conveying the message of heroism by reiterating that he can be her ‘superman,’ after returning to tell the listening audience that women lie. Then more recently in his new cd, ‘Encore,’ he continues his woman bashing in his song, titled, ‘Spend Some Time With Me,’ when he says that some guys fall for the first girl who comes their way at the song’s beginning, as if that is supposed to be a bad thing. Furthermore, it also tells a tale of a guy who has been hurt by the female character in the song, when after trusting said woman, she is apparently caught rummaging through the male character’s personal effects, which is where she, ‘crossed the line.’ Now I am well aware that there is good and bad in each gender, but I have to brace myself when listening to an ‘Eminem’ song except, ‘Lose Youself,’ which is all about taking opportunities that come one’s way in order to achieve success, ‘lose yourself’ also has an infectious, feel to it that might make one want to get up and dance. Because if it is a song I have not heard before, I never know what will be mentioned in the musical number. All in all, there are some good women out there, ‘Eminem’ just like there are some good men. I guess we just have to keep an open mind when next someone comes our way.
