Nov. 29, 2004 “14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. 15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (First Thessalonians Chapter 5 and verses 14-24) I believe most of you (if from the United States) were in bed, dreaming about your turkey dinners while I was already devouring mine. The Army dining facility (DFAC) put on quite a spread which included prim rib and shrimp cocktail. All that food, topped off with a generous piece of pumpkin pie, and no leftovers! Yum! Yummy! Yum! We hear about the schools that have been rewriting the history of the Puritans and the early Pilgrims. We have heard about the extraction of the Declaration of Independence from classrooms. We have read about public schools in Maryland telling children they can thank anyone they want except the Lord God Almighty. Of course they better not thank Jerry Falwell or George W. Bush either. All I want to say to all those atheistic individuals is that I really hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! The scripture above admonishes me to “warn them that are unruly”. So all you guys out there that attacked your fellow Americans because they were conservatives; consider yourselves duly warned. The scripture also admonishes me to “comfort the feebleminded”. So I want to offer all the comfort possible to all you who have recently gone to the psychiatrist to discuss your depression over the major election losses you believe you have suffered through. I understand that John Kerry has promised all the votes will be counted in Ohio, so there, there; take comfort and be of good cheer. I am to “support the weak, and be patient with all men”. So I am withholding any scorn I may have wanted to heap on you for your incessant mean-spiritedness. I will not render evil toward you. I will not invoke the names of assassins against your leadership, but what I will do is rejoice and pray for you that you will settle down and become civil and bipartisan and begin to help America rather than continue to obstruct progress. I know there are many who are sadly taking exception to the fact that the moral people of America have had enough. It really is time to stop the hatred, the anger, the bitterness. In case you haven’t noticed, the bulk of all that is coming from only one group of people. The scripture above also admonishes me to “prove all things” and to “hold fast to that which is good.” I want to know what is so wrong with that. Why would someone think ill of me for wanting to “hold fast to that which is good”? Why would someone despise me for wanting to prove all things against the good things? Why do I have to accept any part of immorality and sin to please anyone? There is only one person who needs to be pleased here; The Lord God Almighty. The scripture above also admonishes me to “give thanks”. One important aspect of God is that he is the one who has given all to us. It is “the will of God in Jesus Christ” that in “everything [we] give thanks”. You and I know that the Puritans and the Pilgrims knew their Bibles. We also know who they were giving thanks to at their meal, and it wasn’t the Indians. And now I will let this Nation’s First President finish this for me. Don’t want any leftovers here: “Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor -- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness." Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be -- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks -- for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation -- for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the tranquility [sic], union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed -- for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted -- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions -- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually -- to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed -- to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn [sic] kindness onto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord -- To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease [sic] of science among them and us -- and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
