Jesse Jackson Vs. Martin Luther King Jr.

By Gerald Walker
Nov. 28, 2004

I recently had a debate with my peers at church (a church full of liberals) regarding random political subjects. Discussing and conversing on popular topics as well as subjects concerning the black community. I shared with them my disappointment with the so-called “Black Leaders” of the African – American Community. I shared with them my disapproval of the NAACP, Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Push Coalition, Louis Farrakhan, Barack Obama (voting record), and Al Sharpton. As being a black male, their only conclusion was that I hated black people and was a sellout to my race…..that isn’t true. One thing that caught my attention was when I said Jesse Jackson. Things really got worse. People started yelling and talking to me all at once (criticizing my opinion) to discourage me. However, the other thing that caught my attention was someone saying “Jesse Jackson” was the greatest leader since Martin Luther King Jr. At that point, I came to a realization that these people had no real identity of Rev. Jackson. Moreover, if they felt that much about Jesse Jackson obviously they had no recollection of how great of a leader Dr. King was to African Americans. With my predator state of mind that was a subject, I wasn’t going to let slide.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This is what my brothers & sisters at church so blatantly demonstrated “Pure Ignorance”. No black leader has done more things for the African American community than Dr. King. Dr. King was a real activist, a national figure, and he sent civil rights in new directions. During a time of oppression to blacks, Dr. King let everyone know that they were “Somebody” and gave blacks and poor people dignity, a sense of hope. Something that Rev. Jackson has yet to do.

Jesse Jackson is for Jesse Jackson and Jesse Jackson only. Before Dr. King protested at the national level, he got things situated at home (south). In Chicago, kids' reading scores were the worst in 13 years; Jesse Jackson has yet to open his mouth. Rev. Jackson is a man of opportunity or better yet, “he’s all about the Benjamin’s”.

Rev. Jackson needs to focus more on the community as a whole and get his priorities straight. Instead he showboats and has fun wasting others money on stupid conventions. Jesse Jackson is a profiteer who with the help of the liberal media has co-opted Dr. King's dream and turned it into a nightmare."

Besides his horrible records, he is a terrible activist and politician. One of the most farfetched things I have recalled Rev. Jackson say was “during the presidency of George W. Bush, poverty...including childhood poverty...is up. In addition, “Republican policies often seem divorced from the teachings of the Bible.” Therefore, he was basically saying that Republicans who oppose the Bible are the reason poor people in this country.

Now correct me if I am wrong but…

Jesse Jackson is a democrat, right?

He does represent democratic policies, right?

For the past 40 years, he has promised to bring poverty to an end, right? RIGHT!

Why is he inclined to criticize President Bush by saying with him in office “poverty is up”? When in actuality poverty is up in Illinois. Moreover, poverty is up in Rev. Jackson’s own back yard of Chicago.

I find that funny.

Especially with these Jesse Jackson and Democrat enforced social programs he even said it himself “poverty is up”. However, without looking at himself he is quick to blame only Republicans and this president…what a jerk. Unlike these pathetic Democrats I and some Republicans, do not pretend to have a government solution to poverty. In addition, as far as the Bible is concerned didn’t Jesus say, “The poor will always be with you” (Mark 14:10).

Sorry I got a little of track… Nevertheless, when it gets down to it, Jesse Jackson “sucks” and for someone to compare him to Dr. Kings personally to me is detestable and foolish. Therefore, before you people begin to open your mouth saying who is better. Please just think about it first.
