A Believer In Christ

By Lindsay Davis
Nov. 26, 2004

I am a Christian of the Reformed Faith (Bible- believing Christian). Like most people I have my problems and my joys. I sin and seek forgiveness and repentance. I have a great amount of pride and selfishness wrought within me. I see that I am a being made of the earth and need a savior to save me from my corrupt flesh, because I am not capable of saving myself through any means.

The Christian life of a believer is not easy. You have to forsake the world and the things in the world that your flesh craves (the evil temptations that are of the world). People often hate you for your views, your ideals, and that you love your King. And therefore make fun of, persecute, and malign you.

You have to continually fight uphill battles. You see that you are a failure over and over again. Oppression is on every side. You almost want to give up but you just can't. Your God is derided and so are you. You become weak under the heavy load. Many who called themselves Christians and fellow brethren betray and harm you as well as the God they claimed to serve. Day after day temptations come and leave you feeling hopeless and ashamed.

Is it worth it? you may ask or maybe you know some Christians and say, "It can't be that bad. They look so happy."

As a Christian all I can say is that it is definitely worth it. Even if I die for Christ's sake in any way it is worth it. The persecution, derision, hurt, pain, etc Is all worth it!

How? You may ask. This is how I would respond. I, as a sinner, was a slave to sin. I deserved eternal death for my sins and was destined for Hell. Yet, because of the grace and mercy of God, He has seen fit to save me from eternal damnation. I have been adopted into His family and have been set freed me from my bonds. Therefore as a Christian I now have a God who will NEVER leave me NOR forsake me! He has suffered more that I could ever endure and because of His sufferings He is able to show His children compassion and love.

When we hurt He suffers along with us. He feeds and sustains us with His Spirit. God upholds us and shows us loving kindness and mercy in a dreary land. The corruptness and vileness of the land draws us closer to Him and makes His beauty more glorious to us.

We as Christians have His promises and love. For God is love and the greatest kind of love. He gives us nothing more than we can handle. If we look to Him and not to ourselves, or those around us we will win, we will conquer.

God is the greatest source of comfort and joy. He wants what is best for us and gives us that which will make us better to serve Him, which is our chief purpose.

Many great men and women who have gone before us have enjoyed happiness and sorrow, joy and grief, but they looked to their savior and thanked Him for his mercy and love.

This is why true Christians are able to love their enemies, persevere in faith and life, enjoy the things God has blessed them with in this world, and yet remain true to and love their King and master.

May God humble us all and show us His glory.
