Nov. 26, 2004 If you were to believe the government bureacrats in Canada and the United States you would think that the economies of these two nations were prosperous. After all, everyday we hear through the media that multi-national corporations continue to grow in size, marketshare and in profits. They even seem to be able to give larger and larger salary increases and perks to the CEO's of these companies. You also hear of the countless jobs being created. However, what is totally ignored and never reported is that millions upon millions of families and individuals are being forced to live on third world wages and in most cases without healthcare or benefits. Many of these so called jobs created by big business are nothing more than part-time positions or jobs through Temporary Agencies that are not enough in wages for rats to live on. In fact if you want benefits through these Temp Agencies then the worker is forced to give up some of his pay check. If the company that the Temp Agency uses to hire these workers wants to make them a permanent employee, then the wages may only increase slightly. The wages do not cover the living expenditures of a small family or single adult. These individuals and families that the media refuse to mention during the stock market reports on the nightly news, must survive by living on credit cards, credit lines, bank loans and food banks, just to survive from day to day. For many people like these, Christmas presents are simply a nonexistent dream that they cannot afford. These workers are forced to live on slave wages and have no hope of ever getting out of debt or owning a home. While the owners and CEO's of these multi-national corporate giants continue to fuel the economic engine using cheap labor. Who will stand up for these workers that are being abused and alienated from the rest of society? Certainly none of the corporate CEO's or national political parties. The rich could care less about the plight of the poor. The churches and other social agencies do nothing to improve the conditions or wages of the needy. The workers throughout North America and in other nations have no one to fight for their rights through armed struggle like a Che Guevara or Pancho Villa. What is needed is an end to Capitalism that has destroyed the lives of hundreds of millions of people in the last 250 years. The wealthy live in stately mansions, drive flashy, Italian, sports cars and fly away to Europe for weekends, while the poor are forced to eat out of garbage bins and that should not be. The rich live a life that is only a dream to a man earning third world wages. Today what is needed is an end to the Capitalist system once and for all. Instead a new radical, social and economic system built on Socialist policies and equality for the poor is needed. No longer will a man or woman's worth be based on how many material possessions they own. The time for change is now and not in the future. To ignore the rights of the disenfranchised. working class will only lead to anarchy and revolution unless the vestiges of Capitalism is eliminated. No longer will there be be rich and poor, the haves and the have nots, but all citizens will share equally in the wages and the work. It is time that multi-natonal companies be athing of the past. Instead these companies will be divided and reduced into smaller companies that can be operated by a small businessman or ateam of individuals that are paid equally. Where companies used to pay a CEO and a board of directors millions in salaries and bonuses, these positions will be eliminated. CEO's will no longer have special priviledges or perks but will have to work just like a laborer. Once this social order is in place no longer will the poor slip through the cracks of society but will have as much value as any former CEO. No longer will the poor live without the essentials of life but will be able to live in their very own home. Join me along with other progressive socialist writers and thinkers, as we usher in a new socialist and moral order based on equality for all mankind. The time to reform the economic and social policies is now. The scourge of the corporate-elitist network must be tyransformed into a system, equally enjoyed by all citizens. Let us secure a new working, socialist framework for a classless society. ------------ About the author: Stephen Winter a freelance writer and head of a seniors ministry resides in Ontario, Canada endeavoring to bring change into society for a better world for all.
