Reality Killed The Sitcom

By Christina Evans
Nov. 26, 2004

With the ending of Friends this past year and the ending of Seinfeld a few years ago there has been a dramatic drop in the quality of sitcoms on television.

I used to come home after work and cook dinner and do the dishes and watch my favorite television shows. Like Darhma and Greg and Third Rock From the Sun and Friends. Now I come home and there is nothing. I could watch shows like the Biggest Loser or Trading Spouses but I don't. That's my choice. Those are all popular shows.

But my point is there are no other sitcoms. Sure you have shows like King of Queens, According to Jim, Everybody Loves Raymond, That 70's Show, and Will and Grace. But that's it! And those shows will probably be gone within the next year. Then what? More wife swapping? More He's a Lady? How is that even possible. I'm not antigay or anything but what happened to family entertainment? Not even family entertainment I'm talking quality entertainment.

I'm not trying to be negative in writing this article. But you would think that with all of the the money that the networks make they could come up with better shows than the ones we are subjected to today.
