Something Else For Teenage Girls Who Date To Worry About

By Judy Ramsook
Nov. 24, 2004

If teenage girls did not have enough to worry about when pertaining to peer pressure, now they have to be more careful when going out on that date with the young man of their choosing for fear of being physical abused.

According to a report on Netscape.com, almost one sexually active teenage girl in the US has admitted to being physically abused by her date in the past year.

Is chivalry completely dead? Whatever happened to the guy who would save or protect his date from harm? For it is these types of abuse that leave permanent emotional scars on the youths of today and worse yet, according to the same report, and the Harvard School Of Public Health, these same girls who suffer abuse at the hands of their dates are the ones who become victims of dangerous sexual behaviour such as having multiple sex partners over short periods of time, and becoming pregnant.

So what is a girl to do when that handsome classmate comes her way and asks her out on a date? For he seems 'so nice' on the surface, but what if this is the one out of every five girls who might suffer injury from the good looking guy who sits behind her in class?

Since one can never be too careful, and most of you already do this, but if you have given your teenage daughter permission to date, make sure she has a means to contact you, the parent, in case such a thing should occur. Like provide her with a mobile telephone.

This may sound rather old fashioned, but also take the time to meet the person with whom your daughter is to trust a couple hours of her time on that Friday night or weekend evening after school. For it is your judge of character that might save your precious daughter from some form of physical abuse in the long run.
