High-Rollers Casino For Xbox And PS2

By Eric Schomburg
Nov. 17, 2004

I’m not a huge fan of gambling; however, my family is. Therefore, I was rather forced into going to some trips to the gambling boat a couple of times. It’s not that the games weren’t fun, it’s just I hate to gamble money; I’d rather spend it. If you ever been to a casino lately, it has evolved dramatically from the three wheeled slot machines to the new video slot machines.

Most casino games haven’t really captured the feel of a real casino, I should clarify that, no casino video game for a home console system, meaning Playstation, Xbox, Gamecube, etc, has captured the feel of a real casino. However, High-Rollers Casino for Xbox and PS2 has really captured the feel of a real casino; it’s not perfect, but it’s close to the real thing since the real thing.

First of all, there are video slot machines, and they can vary from nickel machines to $1000 machines. But that’s not all; there is also blackjack, craps, roulette, poker, etc. What makes this game interesting is the interaction between you and other players. For example, if you play blackjack, a couple of players may come to play with you; before you know it, those people have left and two new people have come to play with you. Another unique interaction is when you walk around the casino, if you see a person on a slot machine and that machine hits good, the person will jump and cheer while the slot machine itself creates a loud bell and whistle sound.

Although the game could have had more “Easter eggs” added to it, for $19, it’s not a bad game for the family. If I was going to make the game I would add things like numerous announcements via the loud speaker even if you’re playing a game. Something like, “Ladies and Gentlemen, try our new Bloody Mary Margarita for just $1.”

I think it would also be funny, since there is a bar in the game, yet you can’t drink, that you could actually get drunk and you get woozy while playing blackjack. I would also put things that maybe shouldn’t be appropriate, but it would defiantly make it realistic. Like old people in wheelchairs with oxygen tanks to the side, or people smoking, scantily-clad waitresses, and dance shows. I would also put in other Easter eggs like you could find true love; hey I’ve seen it happen in a casino. Have some sort of role-playing game to it. I would love to see someone become a high-roller and have a woman offer you, ahem, “coffee.”

All in all, the game gets 9 out of 10, I still would love to hear numerous announcements and the Easter eggs I spoke of, I hope they make a casino game where you’re more interactive than just walking around playing casino games.
