What Does Madonna Know About America? She Lives In England

By Eric Schomburg
Nov. 16, 2004

If there is one thing that I have noticed about the election is the amount of celebrity power that has been displayed. Obviously, the Republicans had Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ron Silver, but it was the Democratic or the “anybody but Bush” party that I found most interesting. The Democratic party had some hidden trustees involved, but you didn’t hear about them, or maybe you did. Celebrities like P. Diddy who “wants you to just vote,” is an example of one of those hidden celebrities that the Democratic party used. Obviously, P.Diddy’s claim that he just wanted young people to vote was a lie, because after the election P. Diddy didn’t really comment that much about the voting process. Why? Because Mr. Diddy thought the “young voters” would vote for Kerry; therefore, P. Diddy would use his celebrity status to get “young voters” to vote, but just not anyone, for John Kerry. However, the numbers showed that hardly anyone, ages 18-25, voted at all.

Madonna, Dixie Chicks, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore, etc also used their so- called celebrity status to try and get young voters to vote. First of all, it’s stupid to think that young voters will actually vote for the guy you want in the White House, namely John Kerry. Madonna, in one of her concerts, encouraged her audience to vote for Kerry. She didn’t give a good reason, except to get Bush out of office, which is very incompetent.

What these celebrities fail to realize is A) Only children really listen to them; anyone who is old enough to vote read the newspaper, watch the news, listen to talk shows. They do NOT take advice from a rich black man that wears a lousy cheap t-shirt that says, “Vote or Die!” B) No one likes celebrities. I don’t care what anyone says, anyone who is in voting age will not listen to a celebrity.

I can’t understand why MTV would have commercials that appeal to voting, when it’s the teenagers that makes the majority of MTV viewers, teenagers meaning 10-17 years of age. The only “young people” within the voting age are too busy with school and work to watch MTV, I’m not exaggerating, it’s the truth. If a young adolescent is in voting range and not in school, they are either working or in Iraq, why would they have time to watch MTV for political news? No one watches MTV for music anymore, because quite frankly, THERE IS NONE!

I actually read on here an article by Ms. Megan Williams about how Michael Moore’s film was a failure. No, it wasn’t a failure, because Michael Moore said what he wanted to say, fiction or not; however, the film really didn’t change anyone’s mind about how bad Bush is. It was more like saying, “Yeah Bush is bad, but it seems Kerry is worse.” The film was a failure when it came to getting Bush out of the White House, but it wasn’t a failure to Michael Moore, and not because of the revenue he received, but because he’s an American, and I use that term loosely, and he said what he wanted to say and backed it up with something besides, “Just Because...”

I believe that anybody, celebrity or not, should state their opinion about anything; gay marriage, elections, etc. However, I don’t understand why some people would take action into changing anyone’s mind. Remember when Mr. Moore was going to Ohio to film people voting just to see who they would vote for? Remember when Mr. Moore said he would give everyone a free pair of underwear if they agreed to vote for Kerry? I feel that Mr. Michael Moore should take his free pair of underwear and wear them, because he’s going to need them. Why? Because I know he had to have defecated in his pants when they announced that George W. Bush is still the President.
