Britney Spears vs. Chucky; Michael Jackson vs. Eminem

By Eric Schomburg
Nov. 10, 2004

I was watching television the other, first time since the election results, and I noticed Eminem doing his “Just Lose It” video. I have heard that Michael Jackson has said he is going to sue Eminem for being disrespectful because of Eminem dressing up like Mr. Jackson, dancing, his hair is on fire, noting the Pepsi incident, the cutting off of his nose, and children jumping up and down on his bed.

I’m not really a big fan of Eminem’s music; however, I really don’t have a problem with him personally. I must say that I thought Eminem’s video was quite entertaining and dare I say funny. It was intended to be funny, I’m guessing, but you never know with Eminem. However, I really didn’t see why Mr. Jackson would have a sissy-fit, err I mean hissy-fit about Eminem portraying Michael Jackson. It was funny seeing Eminem dance like Michael Jackson, which he does perfectly, and seeing his hair smoking on fire. Even when Michael Jackson didn’t like the idea of Eminem on a bed with kids jumping up and down, I personally didn’t see anything wrong. It didn’t show Eminem kissing the kids, molesting the kids, or anything else that was vulgar or out of place, they were just there. Maybe the intention was to attack Mr. Jackson’s accusation with having sexual relations with little kids, but clearly Eminem didn’t show it. Besides, he’s a father himself, I seriously doubt he would make fun of something like that.

Britney Spears is even getting bent out of shape because of the new movie, “Seed of Chucky,” which is another sequel to the doll killer franchise, “Child’s Play.” Of course, there is scene where a woman who looks like Ms. Spears, or Mrs. Spears, or whatever, but she is angry about the fact that Seed of Chucky’s trailer has the girl who looks Britney Spears being ran off a cliff with a huge explosion and Chucky laughing and saying “Oops, I did it again.”

Of course Britney Spears is angry at a movie franchise that has died since the first Child’s Play, but still, Ms. Spears is still getting angry at this. Why? Embrace someone wanting to kill you, because a lot of people probably think that way. I don’t personally want to conflict any harm to Ms. Spears, but I don’t understand why she’s getting angry, because that’s publicity, isn’t it?

Ms. Spears is probably saying to herself, “Why does everyone hate me?” Gee, where should they begin? Because you’re fake? Incompetent? Or maybe because you’re successful. I don’t know the reason, but who hasn’t wanted to see someone famous get the boot. Look at Vanilla Ice, all kinds of people wanted to embarrass him. Madonna. Paris Hilton. Tera Reid. Jennifer Lopez, etc. South Park does it all the time. It’s about time people like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears get their ass handed to them on a silver platter, but in a safe and entertaining way. Mr. Jackson and Ms. Spears are still going to be famous, still going make millions of dollars, or lose a million dollars. Just because a guy with blonde hair makes fun of you, or a fictional character kills someone who looks like you, is just freedom of speech without really hurting someone. It’s a different story if it was the Zodiac killer sending you a personal letter, but still it’s entertainment, laugh about it and move on. Just because you’re famous, doesn’t mean you’re human, people are going to love making fun of you.
