May 31, 2005 It has been a sad time in Australia, this passing week with the death of a television legend, Graham Kennedy. Many Australians grew up with him, I remember him best for his hosting of Funniest Home Video’s. It was never the same once he left and the dizzy Australian female compere’s took over. But it is not to remember Graham Kennedy that I am writing this article, but it is to show my disgust over the comments recently made by Derryn Hinch. He has announced that the pneumonia that killed Graham Kennedy was as a result of AIDS, which he contracted through being Homosexual. Now, Graham Kennedy never told the public that he was a gay man, and yes, he wasn’t married, which could possibly be an explanation, but I have to say who cares? So what if he was gay? So what if he had AIDS? So what if that was the result of the pneumonia that killed him? Does it really make any difference as to the sort of man Graham Kennedy was? He was a great actor and comedian, just as Rock Hudson was and the father from the Brady Bunch, they both died as a result of AIDS. As for Derryn Hinch, I know that you probably wont read my article, and you probably wouldn’t care even if you did. But who gave you the right to tell the public about someone’s sexuality choices? No one has that right. If and only if Graham Kennedy was a gay man, then that is his right to share that with the Australian public. You do not have the right two days after his death to come out with the wild allegations of AIDS and homosexuality. Not to mention that fact you had no proof to back it up. I think if you are going to attempt to wound Graham Kennedy’s reputation once he is dead and can’t defend himself, then you should at least be able to physically prove your point. Not just rely on your opinion. Many people remember Graham Kennedy when he first started and much of the Australian population grew up with him on their televisions feeling as if they knew the man personally like he was one of their own family members. Many of these people are feeling very saddened and even grieving over this actor’s death. So to come out with such allegations to demoralise him in his death is outrageous, and I must say I’m very offended. Usually I respect Derryn Hinch for his opinions but this event has made me look at this man in a very different light. It seems to me Mr Hinch you are simply a man that can’t stand to see a someone so much greater than yourself have the last light so you must rob that by bringing down his image before those who loved him. You have done a nasty and awful thing, and I believe your reputation has been severely damaged as now you have become a large joke for your wild allegations that you can’t prove.
