May 29, 2005 If Osama bin Laden published an article on the Internet entitled "Allah is Pro-War", we would all shake our heads and lament such craziness. It's such perverted thinking that resulted in 9/11 and other atrocities. Jerry Falwell published an essay on worldnetdaily.com entitled "God is Pro-War", and I've heard very few voices raised in protest. It's this type of insane logic that results in quagmires like Vietnam. Jerry Falwell's paean to war cites many biblical verses to buttress his ridiculous argument. "The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name." The devil can cite scripture to suit his evil designs and any crackpot can quote Bible verses to justify genocide, slavery, rape and just about every other sin under the sun. It's no secret that the tribal deity of the Old Testament urged the Israelites of old to rape, plunder and massacre any nation that failed to bow down before Him. An enlightened nation will not use a centuries old book as a guide to its foreign policy. I like to think that we've evolved past an "eye for an eye" ideology that lives everyone in spiritual darkness. God, if there is a God, is not pro-war, it's madmen like bin Laden and Jerry Falwell who are enamored with bloodshed. It's plump, comfortable, tender, soft hand men who have never been in combat, who glorify war. Real men, like General William Sherman, are more apt to say "war is hell." We are quick to condemn the "Holy War" mentality of the Jihadists -- let us not allow rabble rousers like Falwell to get away with inciting hatred and bloodshed. Shame on you, Rev. Falwell, for glorifying war. Look at that Bible of yours, there are many scripture verses extolling the virtues of peace.
