Being A Thug Is A Joke

Following the article about gangbangin’ I also felt to express myself about this ludicrous behavior known as "being a thug."

What really is the big deal about being a thug? What is a thug? A guy who wears "colors" carries a gun, curses like it’s a second language, pimps women for his own profit, and shoots anyone and anytime at anywhere whenever he feels like it? Is this a thug? Not anymore.

I personally have no idea what a "thug" is anymore, but I can tell you this, being a thug is a joke anymore. When Tupac says "Thug-life 4-ever" I pretty much come back with "you can have it." I was playing Grand Theft Auto San Andreas recently and even the game, in which you do play a thug, literally makes fun of the idea of being a thug. I laughed when Lazlow, a radio DJ, was talking to a wannabe gangsta rapper and he literally made him look like an idiot. "I’m into gangbanging, fool!" Then Lazlow comes back with "Gangbanging? I never did understand that, with other men while you, ewww." I laughed because it showed that the era of being a "thug" is over.

The point is, no one REALLY wants to be a thug or a gangbanger. If anyone disagrees is only because you have listened to gangsta rap too long and took it way too seriously. In the early 90's being a thug was praised with Tupac singing about how being a thug is cool, because "he just didn’t give a f**k." By not giving a f**k, he ended up dead. RIP. I like Tupac, don’t get me wrong, but I think that when gangsta rap came out it blinded some people into thinking it was cool to be that way. Nowadays, it’s more like being rich and cruel; wearing derby hats, pimp suits, and canes. Trust me, it’s a whole lot better than wearing rags on your heads, joining a gang, wearing your "colors", and killing innocent people just because you’re "thugged out!"

Remember when Dave Chappelle was making fun of thugs and gangs? You know when a lifestyle is a joke when Dave Chappelle is making fun of it. Remember when Ja-Rule was supposed to be a thug? Remember the reaction people gave him? He’s an idiot if he thinks he’s a thug. More like a guy who was at the right place at the right time. It’s like saying Good Charlotte is a REAL GENUINE PUNK BAND!

Let’s face it, no one wants to be a thug anymore. It just proves that you are ignorant, cowardice, and not really that "badass." Being a pusher, pimp, thug, gangbanger, doesn’t really impress me. That is why rap music sucks anymore. Rap music is about as redundant as country music; it’s almost predictable what you’re going to hear in rap music. Women, guns, money, or how they are too special for even you the listener despite them depending on you buying their albums.

There is and never was anything special about being a thug. To me a thug is a bum with a gun. The problem with people being thugs is that all it takes is someone or something to glorify it and then everyone else will follow suit. It’s not a way of life, it’s a trend. Just like being gothic, it’s not a lifestyle, it’s a trend. Sooner or later it will no longer shock people and it will die. The thug lifestyle died with Tupac. Even HE was too blind to realize that being a thug was just a lifestyle.
