Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This? Really?

Sweet dreams are made of this, who am I to disagree- The Eurythemics

While listening to this eighties hit, if you listen carefully to the lyrics, you get the idea that what is being told in song is indeed true. Take, for example the line: some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused by you.

For, yes, there are persons among us who are probably just waiting for their chance to have a condescending attitude towards someone. And it could be anyone, a friend, relative, co worker or even a stranger.

And then there are those who want you to use or abuse them, but why? Maybe they are at the point in their lives where they don’t care anymore because they have been hurt so many times, they figure, what’s one more. Or it could be that they want to see if you care. For in order to hurt someone, first you have to care enough about them to do that. And if they see that you care enough to hurt or abuse them, then they might think that on some level, you may care about their well being, though it may sound more like a strange way to display some attention.

For you don’t have to look too far to observe that time and time again, a person who has been say in an abusive relationship, may find herself/himself in yet another one. Why? Maybe because they’ve been abused all their lives and don’t know what they would do if they were not being abused in some form or another, be it verbally or physically. And to top things off, there are people like that all over as can be heard in the line: “I’ve travelled the world and the seven seas…”

No matter how far and wide you go in this world, there are people just like everyone else, good, bad, in between. I guess you just have to choose which type you prefer, but from what I have observed, life will run more smoothly if there is less abuse, quarrelling and fussing. Take your pick.
