Warren Beatty For Governor [Please Not Again]

By Ken Hughes
May 22, 2005

In a recent speech at U C Berkley Mr. Beatty said, he wasn’t interested in running for Governor of California in the 2006 election, had he been asked? I’m sure he’s been approached at one of those Hollywood galas held to collect money for one political candidate or another. A few cocktails and a lot of sucking up and the first thing you know there’s a political candidate in the making.

Mr. Beatty failed miserable in his last run for a political office. He didn’t make it much beyond his first fund raiser. It was suggested his playing Clyde in Bonnie and Clyde made him unacceptable as a candidate. That should have helped him considering most people think all politicians are crooks.

The California Democratic Party is desperately trying to find a candidate who has a chance of unseating Arnold Schwarzenegger. For anyone who’s been watching, the national media’s been posting some negative stories recently regarding Arnold Schwarzenegger performance as governor. This is perhaps the medias attempt to give the Dem’s a much needed boost.

It’s interesting to see some of the names being put up as candidates. In additions to Warren Beatty, Rob Reiner has expressed an interest, and Phil Angelides has his name in the hat. No Barbara Streisand, I guess she couldn’t afford the cut in pay. I’m not sure how the Governor of California effects the rest of the country, I’m not sure how he effects California. Most important issues are settled by referendum, as was their last gubernatorial race.

Arnolds problems seem to be coming from his opposition to the excessive salaries and fringe benefits of California’s government employees including teachers. It’s one thing to say these people deserve every penny until it comes time to pay all those pennies. The California public are reluctant to continually be treated as second-class citizens by an over arrogant band of civil servants. Arnold needs to keep in mind, California has more second class citizens than civil servants.

Again, liberals are out to destroy the opposition anyway, they can. What they can’t do it at the ballot box they’ll let the national media and the courts do for them.

It’s mind boggling to me to see all these Liberal Democratic want-to-be’s parading around making the most ridiculous accusations about their opposition, especially when the facts show them as losers every time.

As a conservative, I should rejoice at their antics, I don’t. I believe in a two party system. I don’t want the minority party coming to the table with balloons and whistles in Clown Suites. There are many good intelligent Democrats out there ready and willing to serve. How do they get past the Hollywood hype? So far the majority of the Democratic higher achy are the richest people in the political process. They can buy everything but an election.

Liberalism’s a dying ideology, let’s hope they don’t take the Democratic Party down with them.
