May 14, 2005 Some folks see Jennifer Wilbanks as a confused and frightened young bride who felt trapped as her humongous wedding was quickly approaching. Most people, I would venture to guess, see her as a self-absorbed young adult who brought shame, ridicule and reproach to herself and her loved ones. The media sees Jennifer Wilbanks as another white woman in peril that spells sky-high ratings. If she is a young lady bewildered by the complexities of life, then she merits our understanding and forgiveness, but if she is a hardened lawbreaker she deserves our scorn and mockery. Jennifer has eyes as big as saucers, but she is no wide-eyed innocent, she has been convicted of shoplifting three times and she has run away from a wedding before. She is a serial shoplifter and a chronic runaway bride. Jennifer Wilbanks apologized to her white fiance, her white family and her white upscale community, but she failed to apologize to the Hispanic community whose reputation she besmirched. Why didn't she apologize for falsely accusing a Latino of kidnapping and raping her? Too many spoiled white women commit serious crimes and then falsely accuse a black or an Hispanic. Some wusses tell us to forgive and forget, but I don't think the 600 people invited to her wedding will be forgiving or forgetting any time soon. I don't believe the law enforcement officials whose time she wasted are in a forgiving mood.
