May 5, 2005 It's that time of year again. Movie season is upon us. Hollwood has been saving it's best movies for this time of the year, with visions of dollar signs guiding them to make their summer masterpieces. Yeah, I know I usually write about more serious matters but I decided to take a break from that today. Now don't get me wrong. I love movies, though I don't go to see them too often(I mean at 8 bucks a ticket and the fact that my hometwon hasn't had a movie theater in 10 years plays a big part of that). I will wait for my local blockbuster to get them then watch them. Now I am picky about the movies that I will watch. Romantic movies? No way. If I want to waste money I can find other ways to do it. Horror movies? I get a bigger scare out of the ticket price than I do from some lame slasher movie. Me? I prefer comedies and Sci Fi. So I am eagerly awaiting Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. This one could redeem the other two prequels. Lucas is a master story teller and this movie, I hope, will be the grandaddy of all star wars movies. I do have one real pet peeve when it comes to the movies. Historical movies. I am a history buff. I drive everyone crazy because I can watch a movie and point out all the historical inaccuracies in the film. That's why I couldn't stand Gladiator, and that is why I won't be going to see Kingdom of Heaven. I can't stand revisionist PC history. So I will save everyone who reads this their ticket money by telling them what the movie is about.(You can thank me later) I am now summoning my psychic powers to tell you what the movie is about. Lets see happy peaceful Arabs under enlightened benevolent leadership who spend their days drinking tea, and flying kites... sorry that was Fairenheit 9/11. Ok, Muslims living in peace with their fellow monotheists in a happy little medieval utopia until the illiterate, savage, innately cruel, white Christian comes along and brings war to a once peaceful land. Bull. I don't want to turn this into a history of the Crusades, but this movie is one PC myth after another. Save your money, or if your feeling guilt ridden about being a white christian, just throw your money down the sewer it will end up in the same place as if you had bought a ticket. All in all though I enjoy the summer movie season. Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy, Star Wars, etc. We all know its not entertainment unless we can sit in the dark and eat overpriced popcorn and drink overpriced sugar water.
