To Kellogg Brown And Root, My Apologies

By Ken Hughes
May 3, 2005

No one likes to have their name mispronounced, KB&R is no exception. In a recent article, I inadvertently wrote they were Kelly Brown Root. Kellogg Brown & Root is the correct name. I received several e-mails correcting my mistake. I am sorry for the error. I’ll be more careful next time.

This gives me an opportunity to add some facts I left out of my last article. The meals served to our troops are four star, no lets make that five star quality. KB&R has acquired the services of some very fine chefs from around the world to supervise the preparation of the meals. No expense is spared providing the very best in quality, quantity, and verity feeding our men and women serving in combat zones.

Some of the soldiers interviewed by Fox News actually seemed to be a little embarrassed by the quality and availability of the meals served to them. Maybe they just don’t want their wives and mothers seeing how well they were doing, at least in the dinning category. Soldiers are supposed to eat cold spam from their helmets. At least that’s the impression the public has of Army food.

I received the usual number of e-mails complaining about the cost of civilians doing the work soldiers should be doing. Soldiers are no longer cannon fodder, their skills are far to valuable to be wasted washing pots and pans. Civilian employees can perform those duties soldiers consider mundane with professional skills reducing both the number of persons needed and freeing up soldiers for the task they were trained for.

The modern Army is a mean, lean, clean killing machine. [Don’t be shocked,] that’s what they train them to do. The politically correct idea all life is sacred and worthy of saving is a crock of crap. Plenty of terrorist need killing, that’s why there’re Armies.

We should honor the Civilian Contractors for their willingness to serve with our troops giving them a more comfortable life style than they would other wise have.

To those good folks from Kellogg Brown & Root [KB&R,] who thanked me for my support and chided me for my error. It’s we how owe you the debt of gratitude. We [ I ] thank you for your service.
