Mar. 31, 2005 Phobias. Many have them, perhaps some do not. I know people that pipe up and say, " I'm not afraid of anything!" Perhaps. I don't think there is any shame in having fears. Once you scratch the surface, some of them seem a bit bizarre though... I read about a lady once who was afraid of toes. Now what did toes ever do to anyone. I also heard of another lady that was afraid of yellow cars. I think yellow is a great, vibrant and exciting color. But surely there are reasons for such fears. Some new agers claim that many fears are due to bad experiences in past lives. For instance; you are afraid of accepting a drink poured by a stranger? After past life regression you might find out that you were poisoned by a friend or some such thing... Some common phobias are of heights(that one to me is more like just common sense though), snakes,crowds,dogs,cats...I guess there are thousands and thousands of phobias. Many youngsters are afraid of clowns, and I don't blame them. I have always been afraid; mostly of loud obnoxious over-bearing persons. Clowns can be overbearing, but I was thinking of regular everyday people you have to encounter in society. My wife is afraid of spiders. She will handle a snake, a mouse, or almost any reptile or roadent. But the sight of a small tiny itsy bitsy spider sends her screaming. In fact a scream can be suddenly heard at anytime around here. At first I jump up at the thought of an intruder. But the intruder has thus far been only about the size of one's small fingernail. All of these spiders I have killed are going to have a phobia in their next life. A phobia of being smushed and then flushed down the toilet. It will have been my fault. I am creating karma for myself. Spider-Karma if you will. But what can one do? Got to keep a woman happy. After all, an angry woman should be everyone's phobia. And I ain't phobic about saying that as its the truth. ------------ About the author: Brian Michael Barbeito is a struggling poet and free lance writer from Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
