The Bulls Of Spain's Pamplona And Terri Schiavo

By Stan Grimes
Mar. 28, 2005

Like the bulls of Spain’s Pamplona, news media from every corner of the country stampeded to the Hospice where a lady lays dying. She is now in a near-coma state of existence and the bulls will be there to record her last breath. The bulls gather like flies on a drop of sugar water, waiting for a byline to come from the Pinellas Park, Florida hospice. A small group of protestors are waiting for something or some sign to confirm their hatred for our government and judicial system, perhaps their hatred for anyone not believing in their cause. Terri, without knowledge, will soon give them all what they want, a car wreck. Some people can’t pass up a car wreck, morbidly hoping to get a glimpse of blood.

Do these curious protestors truly understand the vastness of what is happening to the lady inside waiting for her last breath? Do they even know what they are protesting? Are they protesting life, death, religion, what? A man and his wife, along with their children, are handcuffed and taken to jail. When questioned, the couple stated they were proud of their actions, and that it was a learning opportunity for their children. I think one of the kids was seven years old. What will a seven year old remember about this moment in their life, what a police car looks like on the inside?

Most of the protestors are pro-life and proactive for Christianity. If they truly cling to Christian ideology, why are they against the death of the poor woman laying on her hospital bed? Will she not go to a better place no matter what? According to religious doctrine, there is a place prepared for her after her departure from life. In other words, there is life after life, apparently a much better life.

Terri’s parents, the Schindlers, have nearly exhausted all legal means to stop their daughter’s ensuing death. Terri’s husband, Michael, will at last be able to see his wife’s wishes carried out and he will be able to go on with his life. For fifteen years, this family feud has been eating at he and the Schindler family. It will be over. In a week or less this death-maniacal circus will end and the world will once again get back to the business of determining the future of poverty, Medicare, Social Security, the Iraqi War, and fuel costs. Life will go on and the last heartbeat of Terri Schiavo will be forgotten by most.

Most, that is, except her parents and close family. They will never forget their daughter and sister. And, Michael Schiavo will never forget. A deluded world has placed a burden of some kind of fantasy murder upon his shoulders, which is more guilt than one man deserves. Some will say, “Good, he deserves it.” Perhaps the very Christians that stoned Mary Magdalene.
