Mar. 26, 2005 Everyone knows that Hillary Rodham Clinton is the wife of former President Bill Clinton, but what do you know about her? People most outspoken about Hillary have been pleasantly surprised by her candor, drive, dedication, and hard work she has done for the people of New York State since she was elected Senator there in 2000. That includes Republicans and Democrats alike. Let’s take a look at Hillary Clinton the person before we move into what committees she sits on and what she hopes to accomplish during her service as Senator for New York State. I am sure that after reading about her you will change you thoughts and view her as the best possible candidate for President in 2008! Hillary was born in 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Wellesley College where she obtained her BA in 1969prior to attending Yale University Law School where she graduated in 1973 with her Jurist Doctorate. In 1974 she joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville, Arkansas. By 1975 she and Bill were married. (http://aolsvc.worldbook) From 1977 until 1992 Hillary worked for Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. November of 1992 Bill was elected President and Hillary became the most active First Lady in the history of the United States. (http://aolsvc.worldbook) Hillary held no public office prior to being elected Senator for New York State. However, she served two terms as First Lady of the United States and many terms as the First Lady for the State of Arkansas while Bill was Governor there. Hillary is a champion of health care, education, and welfare-especially for children. During Bill’s Governorship for Arkansas Hillary played a leading role in reforming the public school system for the State of Arkansas. From 1986 thru 1992 she was the National Chairperson for the Children’s Defense Fund which helps to promote child welfare. (http://aolsvc.worldbook) During Bill Clinton’s Presidency, Hillary was chief author of a plan to guarantee low-cost healthcare to ALL Americans. Congress failed to act on her plan at that time largely because they felt that this plan would give government too large a role in the health care system. By 1996 Congress passed a bill that included many key elements from her plan. (http://aolsvc.worldbook) Currently she sits on four Committees in the Senate. Those are; • The Special Committee for Aging • The Armed Services Committee • The Committee on Environment and Public Works • The Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Hillary’s seat is up in 2006 when she will run for re-election as Senator for New York State.
