Mar. 26, 2005 Looking at some of the events that have transpired over the past few weeks have given me pause over the meaning of this Easter Holiday. Today is Saturday. Yesterday marked the anniversary of the death of Jesus, the Christ on the crucifix erected by Roman hands at the cry of the Jewish religious hierarchy. Jesus was a hated quantity. He was a man of miracles and a way with scripture that put the religious leaders of the people on instant defense. Jesus proved the hypocrisy of the Pharisees simply by speaking of their foolishly made laws that had nothing to do with the righteousness of men and everything to do with lining their pockets with the monies not marked for Roman taxation. God the Son challenged 400 years of Pharisaical meddling with the laws and rules of God His Father. Today’s religionists and even one atheist in this forum practice the same types of interloping. The way God handed down his law is “too tough” or “not with the times” or “irrelevant” for the challenges of todays more modern societies. All those excuses are so much crap. The fact of the matter is that men refuse God. God is recognizable in every aspect of human existence. Men were originally formed in the express image of God. Men lost that image when they preferred sin over spiritual worth. The arrogance of mankind to believe they are better than the one who made them pervades all of humanity with very few exceptions. There are no real explanations for the disappearance of the physical form of Jesus from the tomb he was placed in. The body was guarded, the tomb was sealed and the disciples and the women went to the tomb on the first day of the week fully expectant to find that body so they could finish their hasty burial preparations. The body was not there; only the burial garments remained. No one came forth with the body to say: “See I told you so!” Jesus was the one who revealed himself for the next 40 days, to help his followers understand just what had happened. On the day of his ascension into heaven, a bold group of people were born into a world of evangelism that holds its strength even into these modern days. No one can truly explain that. The resurrection of the Lord sets faith in Jesus apart from all other religious experience. The only empty tomb was the tomb of Christ. The only history of resurrection lies with those who passed this event down among those who believed and received their testimony. Jesus prayed: “I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.” (Jn.17: 14) This is the lot of the Christian. We are not of the world. As Christ lives with the Father, he advocates for the Christian as he works here in a world that he doesn’t belong in. The message of the resurrection is a hated message. No, it is never to be hated by those who know the Lord. It is always despised by those who reject the message of the cross. The message of the Christian is not of arrogance or ignorance; the message of the Gospel of one of love and care for the worth of the human soul. These past few weeks have seen struggles unimagined only a few years ago. Soon, Dr. Jack Kevorkian will find his services aren’t barbaric. American jurisprudence will have deemed assisted death a marvelous service to the individual who has been deemed worthless to society. The amazing thing is the innocence of Jesus. He had committed no crime. He had healed the lame and given sight to the blind. Lazarus came from his grave at the request of God. He had fed the hungry and given spiritual guidance to the thousands who heard his sermons. The innocent one had to die. A known criminal was given life in his place. I have watched and listened and read many things over the past few weeks. The innocent are still having their deaths ordered by courts and judges, while the guilty are giving interviews on CNN. Christ, the Lord is risen and alive; God bless all who celebrate the resurrection, and all those others who tolerate Christian value for this event of human history. For the rest of you; have a nice day. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae has contributed over 300 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
