Mar. 25, 2005 People have probably been worrying about things since time began. Things they cannot control, things that happened in the past, things that have not yet occurred, then in the late eighties I heard a song on the radio that put what seemed like a refreshing spin on the concept. The song? 'Bobbie McFerrin's Don't Worry, Be Happy.' Placing emphasis on if you were to have a particular problem and were constanly worrying about it, it could make you or the person who is worrying unhappy. Of course if you did not worry about whatever it is that is causing some level of stress in your life does not necessarily mean that the problem would magically go away, but not constantly worrying about an issue might not inflict unhappiness, which can ultimately lead to depression. Of course, if the thing you are worrying about can reach a reasonable solution, then it might be more useful to ponder about that solution as opposed to just worrying about the problem. But if the problem happens to be something which you cannot control, pondering about it is fine, but do not let it consume so much of your time so as to make your happy mood change into something that is melancholy. For your sad mood can have an affect on those around you as well. For example, if you are not sad or worrying about something, you will be easier to approach as opposed to if you were visibly worrying and blue about a certain matter. And your loved ones can tell the difference. Catchy little jingle that 'Don't worry, be happy' song, and can make worrying seem rather trivial. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
