Mar. 25, 2005 I think Oliver Stone should make a film about the controversial spiritual teacher Osho, also known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Oliver Stone has a penchant for charismatic figures such as JFK and Jim Morrison. I think this project has his name written all over it. The film would start with the rebellious childhood of Rajneesh, then show his spiritual experiences, and later on, his years as a philosophy teacher. The bulk of the movie would examine the leader's rise to the world stage and what transpired there. This story, as far as I know, has not been told in movie form. By the end of his life Rajneesh was labelled persona non gratis in many countries around the world. He left hundreds of books of discourses regarding the spiritual search. Most people remember him as the one with all the Rolls Royces. The film would have a cast of hundreds if not thousands. It would do best as an epic of sorts. There would be opportunities for those flashy lights the filmaker likes to use since a major theme is enlightenment. There are also politics, sex, drugs, spirituality, and many more juicy ideas to be told about as regards this tale. Finally, the story, if well told, could be of interest to people in sociological, political, and of course religious terms. It would do best to be a very big budget project. Osho was a pretty big budget figure.
