Mar. 25, 2005 On the eve of Easter Weekend the war is still raging. No, not the one in Iraq; the one over Terri Shiavo. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she's a very nice lady and I wouldn't want to wish her harm. I just get a little tired of hearing about the whole thing. Why can't they leave the poor woman alone? I don't know what her actual situation is. Bottom line I think the only two people who have that insight are her and God; and God has been seriously missing from the situation. Well, okay, He isn't missing. The bozoes in the main stream media are all trying to tell us she is perfectly alive and feels and knows and she ought to be given back her feeding tube 'cause she's sufferin' th' po' dear huney child lambie pie. Her husband is claiming to be acting out on what she would want if she could speak. I think he has the right idea. Again, I don't have a thing about the woman. I've seen pictures of her on the news and to tell the truth(hey, wasn't that the name of an old game show?)I saw the same look of awareness in the eye of my son's pet goldfish after it went belly up. Her family wants the feeding tube put back in. Why? To hang on to something which is the living corpse of their loved one? Ghoulish! In the words of the a certain doctor on Star Trek:"She's dead, folks." Bury her. Look, if she's going to live any kind of life it's going to be without the feeding tube. I know it's rough, but the poor woman's gonna have to get something without it. My dad was in a car accident one rainy Valentines' Day while on a service call. He was in a coma for ten days. The doctors told us leaving him on life support was gonna burn his body out. We had to make a decision. Well, Dad had made a decision and believe it, or not without a lawyer in sight. He'd told everyone in the family over the years if such were the case and life support were the only thing keeping him alive he didn't want to be kept alive that way. So there were no decision for us. He would have wanted to be released. We didn't have a problem there either. Dad was a man of great faith and he was at peace with God. He had no fear of what was ahead. That's the way it is when you trust God to take care of business. He does. See, isn't that what this weekend is all about? Terri's going to be in a better place, right? So, what's the problem turning her loose? I think it's more cruel to keep her here. It's a pretty lousy deal, folks. Jesus Christ wasn't afraid to die. Well, maybe he didn't like the idea totally, but he knew it had to be done. He knew what Terries' family has forgotten...it's not the end of the game. He knew after it was all over He would be back. ------------ About the author: Lee Zelhart is a proud graduate of McKendree College and the author of The Ghost of the Cavalier.
