Learning From Chimpanzees

By Brooks A. Mick, M.D.
Mar. 7, 2005

You might have heard the news report by now of the man and wife attacked by two chimpanzees. The wife was first attacked, and her thumb bitten off. Her husband, a brave man and a fine example for the rest of humanity pushed his wife away and then took the brunt of the attack.

Most people do not realize it, having only seen the immature young chimps that do cute tricks in circuses, but full-grown male chimpanzees tend to be bad-tempered, vicious, and are said to be about 10 times as strong as a man. And these two chimps did quite a job on the brave husband, tearing out an eye, biting off much of his face, all his fingers, and his testicles.

Under such circumstances, I would have taken out my 9mm pistol and shot the suckers dead. As a last resort, I would have pulled out a close-quarters-combat folding knife and tried to stab them. Chances are I would have had a much better chance against the chimpanzees than the brave husband.

I mention this incident for two purposes: 1) To praise the husband who bravely protected his wife, as a husband should; and 2) To recommend you get a concealed weapons permit and practice. You never know, in these modern times, when sudden violence may descend upon you and you should be ready to wreak sudden violence upon your attackers.

Lastly, on a much larger scale, I want you to consider that our brave American soldiers are facing vicious attackers to protect us. Give them praise and thanks whenever you get the chance.

If the husband had run away, saying, "It's my wife's problem, not mine," what would we have thought of him?

If America stays home and allows oppression and rape and mass murder, what would we think of America?
