Mar. 4, 2005 The snobbery of "professionals" gets to me sometimes. Yes, these people know about their subject, that they have specialized in. Yes, these people are good at what they do. But this also makes them arrogant on subjects they have no clue about, that they "heard something" or "read something"; and that makes them an expert on every subject. A professional football player might be good at his game; but then they make that man, who gets his head bashed in every weekend, an anchor for the sport. Do they consider if he is articulate with a light whit? Do those people see if the man is entertaining? NO! These men know the game, but most don't talk clearly or use the same adjective all the time. Boring! Okay different subject, going to a cocktail party people drink and relax. Professional's under these circumstances suddenly become experts on global warming or how to solve budget problems. Put a few drinks into professional's and you get know-it-alls, who have all the answers. This would be great for the world if they put their knowledge to use, but most of the time it's just shotty theories with no substance. Another example, is if I am sitting around talking to my girlfreinds. All of whom are pretty smart women, and professional's in different occupations. I talk to them about my child, and the ones with no children have the most information on how to raise my child. They have read books or heard a new study on the television. They have no clue what my child's personality is or what works for my family, but they sure do have an opinion. I guess I shouldn't talk about family but that's what women talk about, among other things. Professional's are needed; without specialization our world would be dull and nothing would be accomplished. I think professional's feel that they need to know everything, because those people are afriad to admit they need to look something up or that they simply don't know. I am trying to be a professional with my writing, and I will admit I don't know everything about nursing. Why can't other people do the same? ------------ About the author: Being a full time writer is the hardest job that I have tried.
