June 30, 2005 The first week of summer vacation has presented itself as one of the more trying weeks of the year thus far. Between not sleeping and fear of being sued by a paranoid celebrity, it's enough to make someone my age simply want to give up. I think back to before I started writing on Useless-knowledge.com and I am reminded of how much easier things were then. I was not worried about opening my mailbox and finding angry letters--from my own family. And, after the latest dealing with one of my articles, I began to seriously consider retiring from the Useless-knowledge forum. However, that's not happening. It almost did, though. After chipping one of my front teeth, walking through the rain, and the many stresses caused by my articles on U-K, I had fallen into a pit of anger and depression. I felt as though I was trapped in the situation I was in. But then I had a conversation with a good friend of mine. We didn't talk about anything that was bothering me. But simply talked with their plans for the summer. Without any conscious action on my part, I slowly found a smile making its way across my face. Even though I could not see their face, simply imagining them smile made me feel much better and secure, and I knew then that I wouldn't quit. Without this I'm simply another kid without a voice. But writing articles on this website, I have enough influence to bring a respected news anchor into the realms of profanity. I'd never have that kind of power without this opportunity to write about what I care about. So as long as I have friends to make me feel confident in myself, and confident in my writing, I will continue to write on Useless-knowledge.com. For myself, my friends, and any teen who feels like he does not have a voice in the world.
