June 30, 2005 My interpretations of the President’s many speeches are not always on the money with some folks, but they’re mine and I take ownership. Last night the President said we’re going to stay the course of this idiotic endeavor. He used 9 -11 as his reason for fighting for Iraq’s freedom. Iraq never attacked us in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. We mistakenly went to war with Iraq because of poor intelligence reporting and because the administration had a mindset to destroy Saddam’s regime. We have now lost over seventeen hundred of our children in Iraq. If this non-war (remember major combat is over) lasts for ten years, which many believe that it will, we will stand to lose over fifteen thousand soldiers. We lost fifty thousand in Vietnam and everyone knew that war could not be won, so we turned South Vietnam over to their enemies. In a few years, we will do the same in Iraq and we will never fire a shot at the real enemies, Syria, Iran, North Korea, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and of course the all elusive Taliban. Osama Bin Laden is still living in the comfort of his mountainous home in or near Pakistan. We showed him a thing or two. According to CNN figures, 30% less Americans tuned into George W. Bush’s televised speech than those that watched his last Social Security speech. His approval ratings went up by 8% or 10%, which tells me that most of the viewing audience was misguided Republicans. They like him more now that he has explained why we’re not going to send more troops in and why we’re not going to talk about an exit strategy. The trouble is…we don’t have any more troops to send in. Our military is stretched beyond its capacity to defend and protect our country. It sure scares me. What the heck would happen if North Korea decided to get a little feisty? Are we going to call up our old Vietnam retirees?
I can’t decide who has made the biggest ass of themselves over the past week, Bush or Cruise? Neither have a clue what day it is. They’re both lousy actors. And, they’re both out of touch with the world in which they live. Cruise hates psychiatry. Bush can’t pronounce it. I ask you, who should the Republicans run in 2008, Russell Crowe? I’m thinking Rodney King would have them all beat.
