June 29, 2005 This is a response to Pat Hurley’s question, ‘Who Is To Blame For Natalee Holloway?’ And from looking at interviews of her parents on various news programmes, I can tell that they did the best they could have. But when you’re eighteen, know right from wrong and use free will and common sense and the parents have done the best they can to raise you properly, then it could be that Natalee Holloway trusted the stranger with whom she left. So it is not Natalee Holloway’s fault, she was probably just being a trusting, naïve person as far as going off with some stranger in whom she placed her trust. And since her parents did the best they could to raise her, it was not their fault either. As for someone or something to blame? Try possible temptation and curiosity. Temptation to be curious enough about something to want a sample. But this something is one thing you would not do in your own country, hometown or community. Why? Because if you belong to an affluent enough family and have a certain reputation to uphold, you might not want to do something inappropriate in and under the eyes of your own watchful neighbours. But if taken out of the spotlight of that community and you feel you can do whatever you could not do at home, then you try it, in that place, away from home, whatever that temptation and curiosity may lead you to. And life is filled with temptations, I guess we just have to decide whether or not we want to take the plunge into whatever curiosity we are trying to satisfy. Because while taking the plunge is one thing, thinking of where it could ultimately lead you is another. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
