June 27, 2005 “Dear Michael, ”I just had the pleasure of reading your beautiful letter in Useless-Knowledge.com and I have to confess--I am speechless....and so touched...and truly inspired to send as many more packages as I (we) possibly can! I trust you know that our packages are expressions of love, support, appreciation and respect from citizens all over this country. You make us proud to be Americans.” ”I hope you have had the opportunity to visit the Photo Gallery on our website, www.opgratitude.com to see pictures of all the many volunteers who contributed to sending your packages. In the Guest Book section, you will find hundreds of additional messages to you from our supporters.” ”If you know other troops or units who would enjoy receiving something from us, please have them sign up on our website or email a list of names to me. If there are more than 25 names, please send as an Excel attachment with rank (if needed), last name, first initial, each in separate columns; address and approximate redeploy date in cover email. We will be delighted to send a package to each person during our Patriotic Drive this summer, and then again during our Holiday Drive in November.” ”I am so sorry that I have not seen your earlier articles--is there an archive of them somewhere I can access? Aside from what you said, you are a beautiful writer! If you would ever like me to post your work on the Operation Gratitude website, I would be honored to do so.” ”I have said it to you before (in our card), but it bears repeating over and over: Thank you for your courage and sacrifice in service to our country and the cause of freedom. My thoughts, prayers and appreciation are with you always.” Fondly, Carolyn Carolyn Blashek, Operation Gratitude www.opgratitude.com Man! “Operation Gratitude” does all the work and here they are thanking me! How cool is that? I wanted to share this letter with my colleagues and my regular readers because you all have friends and family involved in the War Against Terrorism. Even if not directly involved in some way, you are writing letters and making phone calls and participating in Memorials and perhaps even funerals for people who have seen dedicated military service as their way to keep America safe. “Operation Gratitude” and other groups like this deserve our respect and support for what they are doing. You can see by the letter that they are prepared to support YOUR soldier too. So if you are not within reach of a local support group, “Operation Gratitude” will accept the name of your soldier and respond with one of their incredibly cool support packages. I am certain too that “Operation Gratitude” would not turn away your donations, and if you are in their vicinity they might be able to use a little “hands-on” help assembling the packages they distribute. Yes, I did respond to Carolyn’s letter, but that was for Carolyn. I plan to visit the “Photo Gallery” when I finish this column. You did, of course notice where she wrote: “you are a beautiful writer!” Some days a writer just skips cloud nine and goes right to cloud ten! ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae has contributed over 300 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
