June 27, 2005 Now, I stopped reading Ron Lewis a while back. I do normally check out his first paragraphs, and if he isn’t about to slam someone he disagrees with I will read the second paragraph and so on. I believe I even complimented him on his “Proof for God” column. One of his recent columns was indeed a “Michelle-bash”, but I could not read past the second paragraph. I was not interested in Ron’s assessment of Michelle’s column on Dick Cheney. I read Michelle’s column. I also wrote a note to Michelle. She has become a good friend. We disagree on almost everything. I hate her politics. I can keep that hate away from her personality. Ron Lewis still struggles with that. I am sure If Ron had approached Michelle as I do; through e-mail. She would have graciously considered Ron’s argument; then, like Michelle does with me; either accept the points made or set out her counterpoints and the reasons. Michelle and I have found common ground in the past. I personally think she has a standing dislike for Bush/Cheney, and that dislike colors her opinions toward the far left. She did use not a few “talking points” in her piece. My note to Michelle stated as much, but I tempered that because I did not see the interview. I could not find a transcript and I could not find a stream to tap to get the audio. I would have liked to have seen facial expressions and listened to voice inflections. This is how I judge the truthfulness or lack thereof in any particular conversation. Unlike Michelle, I trust Bush/Cheney. They gave us the exact reaction that was required upon the murders of 3000 Americans. You go get the bad guys. You don’t let up. You ensure ALL your enemies find destruction and their personal paradise. You don’t appease people pointing weapons at you. You either retreat if you cannot defend yourself; or you fight back against the threat. If you just stand there in your stance of “moderation”; you will be very dead because your enemy is a ruthless, uncaring, bastardly demon who flies aircraft into skyscrapers. Fortunately we have a President who recognizes his enemy. Yes, he has to use tactful political phraseology like “Axis of Evil”, but the point is made that if North Korea thought it could conquer the south without much American intervention, they would have taken Seoul many moons ago. The same for Iran: if you look at the recent election in Iran as a victory for democratic process, you have too much rose in your colored glasses. The guy elected is in full support of the Islamic Theocracy, and visa-versa. Iranian women will still be subjugated and heads will continue to roll off the shoulders of the dissidents. Iran is a 12th century hole of Islamic non-progress holding 21st century technology that they will use as soon as the mullahs can figure out the will of their god, which always seems to lead down the road of death and destruction. We are already doing what needs to be done with Iraq. Now; we can be grateful that Europe has taken on negotiations with the Iranians; that the UN is supporting the IAEA in trying to get Iran to toe the line of the treaty they signed on to; that Russia, China, South Korea, and Japan are behind the US effort to disarm and mollify North Korea. We seem to be very active on all these diplomatic fronts. Iraq too is making multiple overtures to the UN, the EU and the Muslim community for help and understanding in support of their fledgling government. We are left scratching our heads though, because the only avenue that seems to really desire the destruction of these processes is the left side of the American government. That is simply because they hate Bush and will do anything to force failure on his policies. Bush is not allowed any victory anywhere. He must be destroyed politically and in doing that; if the government and the whole country must be undermined; then so be it. Vietnam was never a “quagmire”. What it became was a political quagmire that kept the military from doing its job. Iraq, as a historical mirror, displays the potential of becoming the same type of political quagmire. Just listen to the rhetoric of Ted Kennedy and Howard Dean, and now Hillary Clinton, Jimmy Carter and our formerly impeached Willie Jeff. There is very little to distinguish the words of these now non-supporters of the current administration, from what these very same people were saying during the Vietnam conflict. Michelle Malsbury does not disagree that our enemies need to be defeated. I just think she wrongly believes this current enemy of America can be appeased somehow. This is the same thinking that got us a North Korean crisis; and emboldened the Iranians. Islamists disrespect weakness. They showed that with Carter, and believing the rhetoric of our own left that calls President Bush “stupid”; they are pushing the nuclear envelope, knowing the President does not have the full support he needs to keep our Iranian enemies at bay. The world is not stupid. They see America is much divided. They see support for victory fading. This is why they are pushing so hard in Iraq. They believe the more they can kill, the weaker American resolve will become. The one silver lining is that all the killing is still going on in Iraq, and civilians are not dieing in American streets. You can take a couple of things to the bank though. If we set a date for withdrawal our enemies will lay back. If we then fail to abide by any set date, Al Jazeera and the rest of the Arab press will have a field day attacking American honesty and values. (They do that every day anyway so it’s not that big a deal) Then CNN, ABC, NCB, CSB will again take up the banner of Islam and pound incessantly until the last American soldier is out of Iraq. Then, like South Vietnam, Iraq will fall, because the Senate will not appropriate any more aid to the nation. We will have lost a major battle and again shown Osama a “paper tiger” America. It will be a severe weakness that North Korea and China will be sure to exploit. (Yes, I wrote, “China”.) It is then another skyscraper will be taken from an American city skyline; or another truck will be parked on an American city street and another Federal building will be destroyed; or an American public school will be assaulted by terrorists with bombs or machine guns; or another set of snipers will rampage through quiet suburban neighborhoods; indiscriminately killing anyone on the sidewalk. The other thing we can take to the bank is that terrorists cannot be negotiated with. The Palestinians under Arafat is a perfect case in point; they continued killing innocent civilians all throughout their many years of “talks” and land grabs for a peace that never happened. Perhaps, just perhaps, this new guy will find it in his heart to not break the promises that escape his lips. Hezbollah believes because it was elected to government that they are not terrorists? Well, they believe wrongly. They are terrorists and election at the point of a gun is no election. Simply; terrorists deserve killing; not appeasement. If they all surrender their weapons tomorrow, and go home to make love to their wives and raise their children and forsake jihad; there will be peace. That ball is in their court. Brother Ken, Michelle is a big girl who can take care of herself. Ron Lewis is going to be hard pressed to intimidate her. If I had to say anything to Ron I would suggest a little more congeniality, only because, if he has read much of Michelle, he would know that this is the real and unabashed Michelle that Ken and I have come to know. There is no need to call names or be mean. To Michelle: “Hey kiddo, you just keep writing your pieces. I thought it was a fine write and I gave you my reasons for disagreeing.” So we’re cool. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae has contributed over 300 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
