June 26, 2005 Well John Howard encouraged all Australians not that long ago to have children, to start families. He sweetened the deal by throwing baby bonus money at us. He told us all that if we had children by certain dates the baby bonus would be doubled. A lot of the working class put all there time, energy and sperm into producing more children as the money would come in handy to buy that new car, put a deposit on a house or pay off some bills. But now John Howard wants to sock it to the working class by getting rid of the unfair dismissal law. What this entails is that any business with less than twenty employees can sack any of their staff for whatever reason they feel and there is nothing that the employee can do about it. Well this is just dandy, we go out have more children, and now have to worry that maybe we have to survive on the dole if our boss feels he/she no longer wants us. This is only going to hurt those that are mostly unskilled labourers working for lower pays in small companies such as factories, or small retail shops. This also means that if your boss wants to reduce your wage to an unreasonable amount, you feel that you can’t complain because you risk the sack. If your boss wishes you to work unreasonable hours then you can’t kick up a stink because you risk the sack. Now Labour stands the chance to take the light and shine. As long as they remember why the party was formed and that was for the rights of workers. If they stand up and say that they will fight this with everything, I believe that they will have a hell of a lot of support. If you are a worker, and you work in a business that has less than twenty people in it, this will affect you. Before your boss might have just thrown a tantrum when you said you couldn’t work overtime because of your child or partners birthday but now they can fire you and leave you looking at the embarrassment and financial burden of being on centrelink payments to survive. Lets not put our families through this and make John Howard realise what a mistake he is making as we are the voting public and we can make a difference. Let us stand up and let him know that if he takes away our rights as workers that we take away his right to being the leader of this country. We will sack him but it will not be unfairly… There are already so many people just on or under the poverty line, struggling to make ends meet. Struggling to keep their bills paid let alone affords the luxuries in life, such as a full tank of petrol. If the liberal party gets it way in this the amount of people just living on that poverty line will increase and those that are now just living above it are likely to sink below it. This not only affects individuals but communities too. More people will rely on centrelink payments, more people will need welfare support, and more people will need public housing. Is this really what Australia needs or wants? Yes this is the very far scale of the spectrum but if we do not stop the current Government lining the riches pockets then what have we as workers left? Stand up and stop this before we eventually become like so many other countries, with homeless families, children not having homes to live in because parents cant find enough money to pay the rent. Go to rallies, sign petitions, let John Howard know that we as workers are well aware of what he is doing and that we are not going to stand for it. We are his bosses and we will sack him come election time. We will appoint a new Prime Minister one that might actually do something for those that aren’t of the rich and high class. Yet they might think about who it was that kicked John Howard out of his job. ------------ Email Samantha King: kingy351@bigpond.net.au Tell a friend about this site! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
