June 26, 2005 It's amazing how many stupid and dangerous ideas, survive all the odds, and come to fruition. A couple of companies are selling candy that tastes like marijuana; it's hard to believe that this patently ridiculous idea has been embraced by more than one firm. What have the CEO's of these corporations been smoking? Chronic Candy from the Golden State hawks pot-flavored suckers in $5 "nickel bags. "Chronic" is a type of marijuana and a "nickel bag" is druggie slang for a $5 bag of grass. The candy cartel's advertising motto is Every lick is like taking a hit. Who are they going to hire to endorse their wacky candy, Snoop Dog? ICUP Inc. of New Jersey peddles Pot Suckers, which the company claims taste like the real deal. Neither "Chronic Candy" nor "Pot Suckers" contains THC, the magical ingredient in marijuana that produces a buzz. Any kid who buys a candy that tastes like weed is a sucker, because there is nothing tasty about the herb. Marketing candy that tastes like weed to children is as tasteless and tacky as Michael Jackson giving "Jesus Juice" to little boys to lower their inhibitions. I'm a strong proponent of the legalization of marijuana, but I think that marketing candy that tastes like pot to young children is irresponsible and reprehensible. Why sell candy that tastes like pot anyway, it's not like weed tastes delicious. The only reason I can think of it that for some crazy reason, these companies want to encourage young kids to use marijuana. I guess parents now have to monitor the candy that their children buy. If your child brings home a "nickel bag" of lollipops, use it as an opportunity to teach him about the dangers of drugs.
