June 8, 2005 Could one survive in an unwalked place in war? I was setting on day in town. Wondering what one would one do in time of need. War can take everything with it, and I was raised by war veteren's. One's that never got nothing for what they did. My grandfather grew food on his acreage, and he fed mostly everyone in Fredericton. Along with my grandmother. They grew farm's of carrots, and so forth. This showed me you must own land, and grow your food. This wasn't enough for these day's ,though, I thought. One will need to beable to get away from it all. You just never know when they are going to through a bomb. Or, something tragic happens. We have computer's ,now, that can control the best of equipment. It would not of been hard for anyone to have controlled those airoplane's. Right from a near by room with a computer. So, I started wondering what to do, and how to get away from war. I made up my mind to go do some research. The summr of 1999 Ispent in a place called Elk Bay with a ten year old monk. When I got there, I started a book on what was going on. I did this on a laptop I ran once a day. This was done on a generator for one hour. I lost the book months later on the computer. I had no way of calling out as we were to far into the mountain's. The cell phone would not work. So, I knew getting in touch with other's would be difficult. So, I had to come up with a plan to be able to contact other's. We had a boat, and that would be our contact if need be. Except we needed gas to keep the boat going. Proably in time we would need part's. So, if one was to live far away, you won't have no work. So, that mean's no money. Then, I had to come up with a way of making money. What would one do on the tallest mountain in Canada? No one goes there so no one could buy anything. I came up with the plan after days of thinking. I would go out, and catch gigantic ling cod, and rock cod. Take them into town with the boat or car. This would give money for the supply's needed. In the time that I was there I learned what one would need for supply's to live. 1. A gun Needed for two things. One for protection, and two for food. 2. Bullet's Many bullet's for food. It takes alot to bring a grizzly bear down. You don't want ro run out of bullet's. The gun, and bullet's are the most important. Until, you don't have a fishing rod. Then, that would be a disaster. 3. Pail's Large pail's for water supply, and keeping of dry food's. Also, you can use a pail to catch crab's, and so forth. 4. Dry food - five gallon pail's Rice, flour, baking powder, salt and pepper, white sugar, brown sugar, dry milk, dry egg's, cocoa, icning sugar 5. Ax, hammer, and tool's, and lot's of rope You will need the ax for wood, and also cutting a bear up if need be. Tool's in case the boat motor fails or car. Rope for hanging clothes, and to keep your boat afloat. 6. Car battery charger Sometimes your car won't be running for day's. When you go to get into, it it won't go. 7. Fishing gear Lots of different jigger's, and large fishing rod's. A large sword to get the cod's. They are like a dragon, and not that nice. They don't die not even after the last fillot is removed. Heavy duty rubber gloves to fillot them with. 8. A camper with all supply's for camping. I wouldn't advise you to stay in a tent. I did one night, and woke up staring a 3700 pound bear ,almost, in the face. Not a good idea. Many blanket's as it gets unbelievably cold at times. Lot's of batteries would help to run a radio, and a generator to run everything. Lot's of matches, and lighter's to run the campfire. Where you can do mostly all your cooking. Lamp's for lighting. 9. Chocolate This might sound stupid, but chocolate is very important. You are going to be straight out from morning until night. Finding wood, fishing, hunting, getting wild vegetable's, lugging water, making campfire's, cooking food, exploring, and so forth. There isn't alot of time for anything, but work. So, you need the chocolate for energy. You should stock up when in town for supplies. Other wise, bake with the cocoa. I found brownies rather good to make. It is a good idea to have an oven for baking. 10. Seed's Grow your own vegetable's, and spice's. You will have the essential's needed now. When you get there you can figure out what else you might want. 11. Four wheeler This will take you far up, and into the mountain. Don't drink out of any of the water going into the ocean. Beaver's build their home's here, and they have disease's. You might just get beaver fever. I did, and was very sick for along time after. Hot flash's, and terrible fever's at night. We live and we learn. The precious times in the evening spend by the shore. It is magical. It is possible for a person to live on unwalked ground in time of war. Or, if you just want to get away from it all. ------------ About the author Marlene Thornton: Born in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. My bio is on my home page. I have won many awards in poetry.
