June 2, 2005 Recently Dennis Siluk posted an article at useless-knowledge.com called "Islamic Dissimulates". He begins, "I couldn’t think of the right word for the title of this article." He should have stopped right there, for he was absolutely right. It's hard to believe that a man who claims to have published books and has posted over 200 articles on this website knows so little about the English language. Did he mean, "Islam Dissimulates."? Doesn't he know that "Islamic" is an adjective and that the subject of a sentence should be a noun? This is like my saying, "Democratic Prevaricates." Then he says, "If I was in Egypt...". Doesn't a serious writer know he should say, "If I were in Egypt..."? Next he says, "Syria (in a heartbeat)," as if that means anything. This is followed by "most any country" instead of "almost any country". Further along he adds, "...and sleep at time thinking paradise is right around the corner.". What does the phrase "at time" mean here? Below that, he comments, "We keep thinking they think the way we think…they do not. It is like thinking, women think the way men think, it is far from the truth." Siluk doesn't know when he has a sentence and when he doesn't. Perhaps he should have written, "We keep thinking they think the way we think. They do not. It is like thinking women think the way men think. This is far from the truth." He should have omitted the comma between "thinking" and "women". It takes a minute to figure out what he's trying to say. He continues further on, "Their eyes candid after prayer, and their hearts ready to burn down the Arch of Triumph; they are submersed...", apparently not realizing that if he uses a semi-colon, the words preceding it should be a complete sentence, not just a fragment. Siluk outdoes himself when he says, "Deep in elegant and learned discussions about the world and Islam, they snigger at their guests, tourist, in their absurd apparel. I have been in their countries, and it is all of that and more. All inequity are cleansed, all dirty souls are turned white by the blood of their proclaimed enemies; thus, they can do no wrong." Why does he say "tourist" instead of "tourists"? Is this just a typographical error? The real question, though, is who is wearing the absurd apparel, the Muslims or the tourists? You can't tell from Siluk's sentence. What on earth does he means when he says, "I have been in their countries, and it is all of that and more."? What is all of what? Do Muslims do even more than snigger at absurdly-appareled tourists? Next he says, "All inequity are cleansed." Why does he use "are" instead of "is"? Apparently he doesn't know any better. There are dozens of other grammatical errors, but I won't bother to discuss each and every one. I'm not trying merely to find fault or be overly fussy about trivial errors. Siluk's articles are always grammatical nightmares. I can't imagine how he has managed to get anything published. It's almost impossible to figure out what he means in many cases. It's not as if he has something to say and merely lacks the language skills to say it. He has nothing to say either. He claims that if he wrote his article in Egypt, he'd be fed to Saddam's alligators. Has he ever been in Egypt? Egyptians are kind, gracious people. I'm sure Siluk doesn't know any Arabic or he would know this. How can an American that cannot even speak decent English expect to communicate with Egyptians? He accuses Muslims of acting psychotic and chopping a few heads off, apparently referring to beheadings in Iraq, but says nothing about the 100,000 Iraqis who were killed by Christians and their Jewish masters. The trouble is that someone like Siluk who visits a place like Egypt and knows nothing of the Arabic language or Arabic culture imagines that he sees evidence everywhere that corroborates the slanders he heard and read in the American mainstream media beforehand.
