Those Who Think, Those Who Feel, And Those Who Know

By Skip Toomaloo

Those who think that they know that God does not exist; that man is the highest form of universal intelligence; depend on the physical to both formulate and justify their approach to life.

Science and Medicine are the disciplines that lead men to greater evolutionary awareness. The physical world and all its components are to be studied in the minute to determine the answers to the great mystery of life: “Where did this all begin?” and “How did this all come about?”

The search has lead to amazing discoveries and wonderful exhibits. The tools of men have evolved from the rock hammer to the Space Shuttle. Incredible inventions that allow men to see well beyond the crude telescope of Galileo and plumb depths in excess of the 500 or 600 feet of America’s WWII submarine fleet.

Thinkers are valuable. Their inventions, discoveries and medicines all work in unison to comfort the uncomfortable; enlighten the ignorant; and cure the ill. But understand too, there are “feelers” amid these sciences whose thoughts are as valid and any “thinker’s”.

Those who feel there is a God are very busy people too. They work very hard at services and duties that benefit their fellow men. They develop the ways and means to render help to those in need of food and shelter. They react quickly to the world’s disasters and then, using the tools of the thinkers, fix what is broken by disaster wrought naturally or by the hands of men.

They carry messages of hope and peace. They care for the homeless and weak and those who have been uprooted by famine or war. They believe in good works because they have been taught this is the way to relationship with God, and it is the highest calling of men to help their fellow men.

Religion is the important discipline for the feelers. The doctrines and the traditions of belief are the necessary components to personal comfort of spirit and the chief ingredients that allow them to cope with situations working among the starving and the physically damaged.

But understand too, there are “thinkers” amid this group who lend their hands and their backs to the efforts of the “feelers” not to please God, but because they see the nobleness in caring for the suffering human.

Those who know God understand fully, the positions of both the “thinkers” and the “feelers”. You will find those who know God in both camps and you will find them speaking to both camps when the opportunities present themselves.

Those who know God do not discount the physical sciences. They just place the physical sciences in their proper perspective. Science is for the now. Medicine is for the now. Neither discipline has any bearing on the eternality of the soul. They understand every soul has an eternal destination and it is not the physical sciences that will deliver the soul to the True God of Heaven.

Those who know God also do not discount religion. But religion must too be placed in perspective. The Word of God to men is specific that works are not the path to eternal life. Only faith in the Son of God, Jesus can accomplish that. Works have their place, but works for the sake of self or for the purpose of pleasuring God have been shown by example to lead down the incorrect path.

This is why the message of the Gospel has never changed since the Day of Pentecost, when Peter left the upper room to declare the Resurrection of the Lord. That day there were both “thinkers” and “feelers” among the crowd. Peter’s message was for all of them without exception.

That same message is spoken today, by those who know God.
