Who Isn't Dependent On The Higher Power?

By John L. Waters
July 30, 2005

In his article entitled "Throwing Away Religion," Keith Cantrell says "No one can force anyone to believe anything." Even so, here on Useless Knowledge Magazine many columnists are presenting articles intended to convince people of something. Allow me to add one more.

This article is also prompted by a second U-K writer, Rod Greig, who has recently argued in his article "Who Is Not An Atheist?" that somehow just because babies haven’t yet learned about god, there is no god. By that same logic, since babies haven't yet learned about rabid bats, rabid bats don’t exist.

Now hey. Let's bring Heaven right down to Earth. Let's just define god as love. Many people already agree this is true. We readily observe that every baby is totally dependent on love. Indeed, love is the providential power. It's natural and sensible to define god as love. That’s no more verbal-sleight-of-hand than any other definition of god.

Everyone is born a lover and an incarnation of love. Without any doubt, each person is totally dependent on the Higher Power of maternal love. Take all that mother love away, and the tyke soon starves to death. Take some of that essential maternal contact away and even an older child has problems. Medical studies verify this.

God as love drives the hard worker who is totally devoted to his work. God drives the kind mother who never neglects her child. God keeps modern machines running smooth as silk, humming away like bees in a hive. God keeps the best students hard at their studies into the wee small hours. They honestly love their subjects. Indeed, love is what enables a person to thrive. Everyone is inspired by the love they have deep inside. Even so, the fool hath said in his heart, there is no love. (or there is no god.)

The Higher Power of love has been felt by people who didn't understand it. Because people don't understand the Higher Power, they make up fantastic stories about it. Love is felt the strongest before a child understands words at all. The baby is 100% dependent on its mother and her devotion to motherhood. A healthy older child might spend most of the day away from home, and not feel threatened. A healthy baby taken from its mother soon feels threatened. Even so, the healthy ten year old is still 100% dependent on love.

Love is providential. Love takes care of us all. Even the destitute homeless person is provided for by providence. If society neglects the less fortunate adults, it's because society teaches a vain fantasy religion. In support of and in celebration of such false religions rich people build expensive churches and keep them locked them up when services aren't being conducted. The same amount of money and labor could build alternative communities for the disadvantaged persons to give love, receive love, and make work they love and do it with joy and with care.
