July 29, 2005 It’s important to understand the people have very little to do with the selection of presidents and congressmen and women. The public’s given a choice between column A, and column B. In the case of congressional choices, it’s often only column A. Most of the time incumbent congresspersons have no challengers. Demographics have changed from the old day of smoke filled back rooms, selecting candidates, in reality the process is the same only the locations change. When I say the people choice isn’t always what we get. The people voted for Al Gore, thank God the system chose George Bush. In the 145 years since the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln was elected, the presidency has shifted back and forth. 18 Republican, 9 Democrats, 1 Independent. Until 1931 Republicans predominately controlled Congress. Control shifted to Democrats in the elections of 1931. In 1994 and 2000 elections, it changed back to Republican control. These are choice granted the people by amendments to the constitution, not at the ballet box. Presidents have tremendous authority over everything but government. When it comes to congress presidents must, negotiate consol, manipulate, and barter, in order to get congress to approve their agendas. Presidents have no dictatorial powers. There’s little doubt Hillary Clinton will be the next president of this country. A super majority of Republicans in both houses of congress will confronted, President Hillary Clinton. Will Republicans forget the obstructions Democrats put in President Bush’s way? Will Republicans forget the treatment President Bush received from leading members of both houses of congress? It’s not likely! A President Hillary Clinton must become a DINO, [Democrat in name only] if she intends to build any respectable legacy for the future. I’m not a sadist, I can’t wait to see Hillary Clinton put through the same abusive treatment George Bush received from Liberal Democrats. If I were Kennedy, Byrd, Durbin, Dodd, Biden, Kerry, [did I leave any super Liberal out?] I would consider a new career beginning in 2008. I can’t wait to say to my friend Michelle Malsbury, “I told you so!” ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is prone to an occasional grammatical error and an occasional misspelled word.
