Natalee Holloway "Not Really" Given Advice Before Her Trip

By Selma Florman
July 29, 2005

Would you allow your eighteen-year-old daughter or son to go on a trip where the sole responsibility of the chaperons was to oversee travel arrangements?

Would I? Not on your life or on the lives of my children!!

It would seem that the normal reaction of any parent receiving the awful news that a child was missing would be: "Why did I let her go on that trip?"

Not once has Mrs. Halloway voiced the thought that would have been the most natural one regardless of who or what was responsible.

"Why did I not make a point of telling her that you do NOT get into a car with strangers?"

When Beth Holloway was asked whether she had given Natalee Holloway any last minute advice about the dangers that might be encountered she said: "Not really."

From what she had said previously their first and only worry was "to find bathing suits."
