Illegal Immigrants: Cheap Labor Or Security Risk?

By Michelle Malsbury
July 27, 2005

Many Republican's think that since President Bush reactivated the Patriot Act and even strengthened portions of it that he has an eye on our national security, but they would be dead wrong.

Part of the issue with regard to terrorism is that we, the United States, have no formal entry nor exit identification policy for our illegal immigrants. President Bush supports his Guest Worker Program whereby anyone, and everyone, can enter the United States and be on their paths toward citizenship. (www.washingtontimes.com article by Charles Hurt, 7/27/05)

What Senator Hillary Clinton proposes is a markedly better plan than the Bush Administration's Guest Worker Program. One that includes an intelligent approach to tracking and identifying our illegal aliens which is noticeably absent in the Bush plan. She says that our ports and borders are not adequately protected. Furthermore, she states that the people tasked with this duty are not given the appropriate resources nor manpower to begin to make a difference there. (www.washingtontimes.com article by Charles Hurt, 7/27/05)

Senator Clinton has taken a very hard stance against this dire situation and is raising eyebrows across the party lines for her opinions and ideas. She calls for reform of immigration laws and tougher border control. Senator Clinton proposes a visa identification card/system for entry and exit into and from the United States for ALL people. This card/system should help all INS and border control people to better track illegal aliens. In addition to this, Senator Clinton beseeches all people to quit hiring illegal aliens and help those departments that are charged with this difficult dilemma to put those illegal aliens on the right path toward jobs, schools, and healthcare by obtaining legal citizenship in the United States. (www.washingtontimes.com article by Charles Hurt, 7/27/05)

Lastly, Senator Clinton says this is not just a matter of hiring cheap labor, but a matter of utmost urgency for the security of all American's. If we truly want to avoid another 9/11 we desperately need to reform our INS and border control policies. We need to track and identify all persons that enter and exit our ports, borders, mass transit systems, and sky. We need to give adequate resources to the personnel that monitor these venues so they can do the best possible job. (www.washingtontimes.com article by Charles Hurt, 7/27/05)

Will each of you do your part to help make America safer for ALL Americans? I will!
