July 27, 2005 As we all know already, each state is represented by two senators. Sometimes there is one from either party, most times there is not. I come from a state where we have Norm Coleman and Mark Dayton. They could hardly be called similar in practice, seeing that one is a moderate Democrat and the other a right-leaning Republican (and former Democrat to boot). With this unique situation, it has occured to me that maybe that is how it should go, as far as having one from each party represent the state. That way the Republican senator could represent Republican issues and vice versa. Since the country is divided along those lines, then we would never have a minority party in the Senate. Of course, the House of Representatives could remain the same but at least one part of Congress would always have a fair shot. I am tired of having one party be in the minority then having the majority be so partisan as to threaten the other with essential elimination. We are currently in a reverse trend of decades past where the Dems controlled the majority of the government. In those times I do not recall them throwing the other party around so much that, when the Republicans got to bat they just "had" to beat the tar out of them, enacting some kind of revenge. If my idea is stupid, please let me know. I still consider myself politically niave, having only really followed politics for a little over a year.
