July 27, 2005 Rumor has it Hillary Clinton is taking control of the Democratic Party. Many top Democrats feel Howard Dean’s harsh attacks on the Republican Party and specifically President Bush are hindering Hillary Clinton’s chances of being elected President of the United States. The word is out civility is in, Dean Style politicking went out with Al Gore. Dr. Howard Dean hasn’t gotten it yet, President Bush can’t run for president again, there’s no need for Democrats to run against him. Hillary Clinton’s crafting a campaign built on civility, conformity, and cooperation. She’s fully aware the country has out grown the politics of hate and personal destruction, so far no one’s been able to convince Howard Dean of this. Conventional wisdom says Hillary Clinton has the best shot at becoming our next president, more than any contenders of either party. That’s not a bad thing as long as both houses of congress remains in the hands of Republicans. I would hate to see a President Hillary Clinton who had total control. There wouldn’t be enough Secret Service in Washington to protect Bill from ashtrays and lamps when she gets pi**ed off. I’ve been informed Hillary hasn’t even announced her candidacy yet. Some want to know why I’m writing so much about her. I say it’s never to early to set someone up. If I’m going to challenge Hillary with the same zeal I challenged John Kerry I need to get in some practice shots. It’s like playing golf, [which I don’t.] You must practice your swing before the big game gets underway. I can think of a lot worse Democratic candidates for president than Hillary Clinton. Hillary is a pragmatist, if elected she isn’t about to let the dieing philosophies of Liberalism cast a shadow on her legacy of being the first woman president. Hillary will insist on creating an image beyond that. She will undoubtedly have a Republican congress to deal with. She isn’t about to let mere political differences muck up her spot in history. Hillary is capable of any degree of compromise as long as it serves her purpose. When a man runs for the office of president, it’s expected. When a woman runs, it’s a landmark decision. Few women have actually run, I think I can recall three, There was a black Congresswomen in the 70s, Carol Mosley Braun, Liddy Dole, and Geraldine Farrow who actually ran for vice president but got confused and made a few presidential speeches. Maybe its time a serious woman candidate for president be considered. For those who doubt a woman’s ability to fight the war on terrorism, I could point out Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meier lead their countries armies in wars with invaders and repeated terrorists attacks on their citizens. I’m not campaigning for Hillary, I’ll hold her to the same scrutiny Liberals held President Bush to. I’ll make one exception, I’ll never substitute lye’s for facts as liberals did and continue to do to George Bush. She only deserves criticism where criticism is due. I have no doubt we’ll all have something to write about. I can’t wait to see hat kind of a horse trader Hillary Clinton will make. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is prone to an occasional grammatical error and an occasional misspelled word.
