And Now For Something A Little Less Explosive?

By Michael John McCrae
July 27, 2005

I expected an upsurge of e-mailings when I sent Useless-Knowledge “Perhaps I Should Reconsider Atheism”. I got exactly what I expected.

I want my readers to know that I appreciated every one of those responses (Yes, they are still coming in.) I would have answered more, probably, but I have a couple of rules I try to abide by.

If, for instance, the respondent is abusive, vulgar or especially arrogant; I will thank them for reading and responding. I don’t do well with arrogance or vulgarity. I usually end up being sarcastic in my responses to such verbiage and nothing gets accomplished. My article was an example of that. One can only read so much Smith, Olson, Cantrell, Reyes, Keyes, Dilahunty, etc. before actually succumbing to all that hatred and sending a response that only adds fuel to the fire of atheistic endeavor.

Provoking thought. That’s what writers do, isn’t it? The job of a writer is to establish his territory and then guard it against all the forces of anti-thought and reason. If the position is untenable the writer falls into disrepute. In the forum of Useless-Knowledge I believe the odds are currently 15 or so atheists to perhaps 3 or four individuals who regularly write about spiritual things. Things seemed a little lopsided and my Irish (on my Mom’s side) got a bit testy.

I do not doubt that there are individual atheists who lead lives that could mirror the most religiously moral among men. I do not doubt that there is a group within the atheistic minority that supports the American government and realizes the dangers of unchecked Islamic radicalism. I do not doubt there is a group within the atheistic community that disagrees with allowing late term abortion. I am sure there are atheists opposed to drug abuse, alcoholism, homosexual marriage and a whole host of social ills they see destroying what used to be the culture of America.

It took a piece of radical sarcasm to get your attention.

Why did I want your attention?

Because too many of you believe the lies about those who are True Christians. You believe we want you all dead. That we want a theocratic government. That we want Jesus preached on every street corner. That we want all atheists locked up or deported. All that is wrong thinking.

There is only one thing that any True Christian wants from anyone. That would be belief in Christ Jesus the Lord.

Now, we are realists. We understand not all will believe. But we are workers too. We understand that it is the position of the True Christian to faithfully put forth the Gospel and if we fail to do that then we have blood on our hands. That would be the blood of those we contact who might die in unbelief never having heard of the Love of Jesus from our mouth; or from our keyboard.

Personally, that is a responsibility I don’t like. I wish I never had to tell anyone about Jesus. I don’t enjoy ridicule. I don’t enjoy multiple spamming of vulgar intent from unbelievers. Yet, for me to be faithful and non-hypocritical to what I say I believe; it is as important for me to write of Jesus, as it is for you to read what I write about Jesus. It is important that I remain innocent of your blood. If I manage that, then I am doing my job.

Some Christians use Rock and Roll; some use stand-up comedy; some use radio and T.V; and some use the printed word. All of that is to get the attention of the unbeliever. We understand we only have a minute or two to sustain that attention before being dismissed in some way, but there is a verse of scripture that reminds the faithful witness that God’s word never returns to God without having accomplished its spiritual intent.

To those of you who took exception to my sarcasm with cause I offer an apology. If you are charitable and active in organizations that assist fellow men without exceptions, these are worthy works. If too, you are not overly concerned that religion is destroying America, but can see the value of faith-based assistance to the world’s less fortunate populations, I thank you for understanding we are just trying to help; not rule the world.

I believe that the salvation of the individual soul is the most important aspect of life. Nothing done in this physical life has any real bearing on the eternal life every man was born to. It is only faith that saves. It is only individual faith in Christ that I speak of. It has nothing to do with any organized orthodoxy. It is simply a personal relationship with the Only God.

There is no hatred, anger, or animosity. There is no judgment. There never was. There was, and there is disappointment, but I’ll get over that because that’s to be expected.

I appreciate every reader, pro and con. I appreciate too, the notes of every respondent. Understand though, If you do not appreciate my message, then by all means, don’t upset yourself by reading it. The message I put out on this keyboard will not change because it is the message of eternal life that every man needs to hear. It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
